NHL Featured Game – LA Kings at Edmonton Oilers
I’m going to do a rare treat for you guys today because I’m a little late with the post. Not only will I give you my analysis, the computer output for this game, and the typical prediction, I’m going to give Stanley’s expert pick as well. Stanley has been on fire in the VIP club, and when our picks align we are unstoppable. Unfortunately, this is not the case with this game.
Z-Code is confused. It’s a two-star game winner pick, with 3 star underdog value. It’s a 57% victory ML prediction for the Oilers, but a recommendation only to play the +1.5 line.
I’m not so confused. I like the Kings with low confidence. This is a matchup between last year’s best goaltender and an aging backup for the Oilers that probably doesn’t belong in the NHL anymore. The goaltending advantage should be enough, particularly against an Oilers team with just two wins in their last six – one of which came against hockey’s punching bag, the Blue Jackets.
Stanley likes “a gutsy upset against the impotent champs” in a shootout, 2-3 Oilers.
For me, at -120, it’s hard to ignore the value on the Kings. The goaltending edge is enough for a low confidence play for me. I think that given Z-Code’s conflicting parameters, and conflicting expert opinion, the prudent thing is to stay away.
Stanley likes Edmonton, Z-Code likes the +1.5 line, and I like the Kings. Pick your poison, or avoid taking a drink at all.
