NFL Week 1 DFS Players to Target

NFL Week 1 DFS Players to Target: Draftkings, Fanduel and all other DFS Sites

Here are Z-Code’s position by position breakdowns of the best value players for week 1. If you’re playing on any DFS site, this is a must-read article for week 1. It includes our favorite players from top-dollar studs to risky fliers going for dirt cheap. The prices listed are for fanduel.

QB:

Derek Carr 7700

Carr was efficient last year and stands only to improve in 2016. In week one he has a great matchup against the Saints who have one of the worst secondaries in football. At his current asking price he’s a great value. He can easily be a top 5 qb this week and his floor is probably somewhere around top-12.

Eli Manning 7200

Manning is surrounded by weapons and the giants were finally able to get the run going in the last few weeks of 2015. They have a favorable matchup against a generous Cowboys secondary. Eli has upside and a high floor. I expect him to easily be a top 12 QB this week and if Prescott can move the chains the game could turn into a shootout.

Tyrod Taylor 7200

Tyrod Taylor will likely be in my lineups most weeks until either his price goes up or he disappoints me. He has the potential to throw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns and run for another 50 in any game. His upside is higher than most value QBs but his floor is a little bit lower as we’ve only seen a little bit from him. He’s worth a stab in week one against a terrible ravens defense.

Dak Prescott 5000

I am not one of the people who thinks that Dak Prescott is here to save the Cowboys. I think he is a rookie who will probably make a lot of mistakes and will not be someone to rely upon most of the year in DFS. However, I can’t ignore what he did in the preseason and the fact that he’s playing against a garbage Giants secondary. If Prescott is serviceable, this game will be a shootout. He’s worth a flier in a lineup for his low price tag but if he throws 12/25 for 130 yards with 2 interceptions I won’t be surprised either. Don’t rely on him, but take a stab.

RB:

Lamar Miller 7600

Lamar Miller, the absolute monster every-down running back for the Houston texans is currently cheaper than Ezekiel Elliot. Miller is proven. He’s a beast. He’s going to get a ton of carries. He’s my high priced pick this week and he’s going for 1200 cheaper than the top-priced RB on fanduel. Start him everywhere and use the money you save elsewhere.

Todd Gurley 8900

If you want to spend the big bucks, Gurley may be worth it for you this week as he’s playing against the number 32 San Francisco run defense. He’ll be too expensive for me in most lineups but I don’t blame you if you find a way to work him in.

Latavius Murray 6600

In week one I’m going to be more concerned with workload and matchups than perceived efficiency. Its been 6 months since we’ve seen any of these guys play so I’m not going to speculate too much on whether the old guys are getting to old to be good or whether the young guys will have improved a bunch in the offseason. The point is that things have happened since 2015 and I’m not going to try to predict them. What I can predict, however, is that latavius murray will get 20+ touches against a terrible Saints defense and thats good enough for me at 6600. I also think he’s a good running back.

Rashad Jennings 6000

Jennings thrived in an every down role the last few weeks of the 2015 season and all information coming out of new york points to such a role here in 2016. Jennings is worth a flier at his current asking price of 6000 considering Dallas’s vulnerabilities. Furthermore, if Dak Prescott can’t hack it, the Giants could find themselves with a large lead very quickly which would be a great situation for Jennings.

Spencer Ware 5400

Spencer Ware is the starting running back for the Chiefs right now and he’s only 5400 on fanduel. Also, he’s not terrible. Do I need to say anything more? Oh, he’s playing the CHARGERS. Start him. If you spend on Gurley you’re probably going to need to start Ware to balance out the money.

WR:

Antonio Brown 9300

I don’t feel like i need to explain why I’m picking Antonio Brown. Plug him in if you can afford him and watch the points rack up.

Sammy Watkins 7300

Sammy Watkins is a top-tier wr talent on a potent offense against a weak Ravens defense. His asking price doesn’t reflect such and thus he’s a big value pick. He will at least be in all of my lineups with Tyrod Taylor if not all of my lineups.

Michael Crabtree 6100

I loved Michael Crabtree last year and he won me a lot of money. He’s a WR1 at a WR2 price. This week oakland is playing the Saints and there should be plenty of targets to go around for both Cooper and Crabtree. I recommend starting one of them in your lineups with Carr. I have Crabtree listed because I think he’s better value. There’s almost no way of predicting which receiver will have a better game and Crabtree is the cheaper option.
Vincent Jackson 5900
This guy is an against-the-grain pick. He’ll be a good pick in tournaments if you’re planning on playing them because I don’t think he’s going to get a lot of attention. I do think, however, he’s going to have a big game. This stems from one of my most profitable systems for choosing wideouts. Vincent Jackson is a competent and talented WR2 and is playing a team with a shutdown corner. Furthermore, the falcons’ corner Desmond Trufant is about the only talented player in that secondary. I don’t expect Trufant to totally shut Mike Evans down- I don’t know if ANYONE can shut mike evans down. But I do think that a fair portion of Evans’ targets will end up going to Vjax. He’s a great value pick as I think his floor is high and, in this particular situation, he almost has no ceiling.

Keenan Allen 7400

He doesn’t have the best matchup against KC but I think he’s going to get a TON of targets and most DFS sites use some form of PPR so receptions are huge. His value is OK at 7400. I like him more than guys like Allen Robinson or Brandon Marshall who are more expensive.

Eric Decker 6900

Brandon Marshall is coming off a hip injury and will play and will probably be fine and will probably have 80 yards and a touchdown because he’s an absolute monster and I don’t understand him. However, Eric Decker is also fully capable of getting 80 yards and a touchdown but his price tag is much more appealing. Especially in a week where Marshall won’t be at 100%, I like Decker for value.

TE:

FYI I will almost never ever ever spend the kind of money it costs to start Gronk and now, it seems, Jordan Reed.

Coby Fleener 5400

He’s a breakout candidate for me this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if his asking price skyrockets next week. There are a ton of reasons to expect big things from Fleener in a New Orleans offense that loves the TE. He has a solid matchup, an excellent QB, and no receiver has truly shined in that offense. There’s plenty of room for Coby Fleener to become Jimmy Graham. He’ll be in most of my lineups.

Jordan Reed 7400

Only if you have a ton of cash left over. He’s a safer pick and therefore he’s 2k more in price. I don’t love the idea of using him because I think 7400 is way too much to spend on a TE but he’s there if you want him.
There are a ton of viable TE options out there that are serviceable and I’m not going to list them all. Overall, I think the field is really deep and outside the Gronk/Reed tier you are roughly going to be seeing similar production from about 12 guys. Fleener is the one i like the most and will be in most of my lineups. Otherwise, fill out the rest of your lineup first and plug in a guy you can afford in the last spot.

DST:

Rams 4500

They’re a good value pick playing against what I expect to be an incompetent 49ers offense.

Texans 4900

They’re playing against Chicago at home and they have JJ Watt and Jay Cutler loves to throw interceptions. They’re a little pricey for me as the third DST but plug em in if you can afford em.

 Packers 4300

A good value pick as they are a solid defense against a terrible Jags team. Not my favorite pick but I think they’ll work.

K:

Hauschka or Gostkowski if you can afford them. Otherwise just pick someone and cross your fingers.
