NFL Playoffs Predictions: Denver Broncos vs Pittsburgh Steelers

NFL Playoffs Picks: Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos

The injuries the Pittsburgh Steelers are facing adds a new element to a game I was already pretty confident about. Both of their top running backs are hurt, Antonio Brown has been ruled out with a concussion, and Ben Roethlisberger is battling an injury to his shoulder. I do not see how this team will compete.

The Denver Broncos have the best defense in football and the best pass rush. I like them to be all over a depleted Pittsburgh Steelers team. While the Steelers defense is underrated and manages to keep the team in games, they are largely hidden by this powerful offense. In a game where the Steelers won’t move the ball, this defense will be exposed.

Say what you will about Peyton Manning and his age and degrading skill set. I still trust him in the big game to get us to one more battle with Tom Brady. I don’t really trust this Broncos offense, but I think their defense will keep them in good positions all day, and smart play calling and decision making is all the Broncos need to win this one.

After an exciting overtime victory by the Arizona Cardinals in a game that Carson Palmer seemed to be shaving points every time the Cards got into the red zone, our bracket remained perfect and my theory about betting against the spread in the playoffs remained true. We’re now 6-0 in picking game winners, connecting on all our underdog bets against the spread, underdog money line plays, favorite money line plays, and money line parlay plays. Both of our featured NFL playoffs games have hit as well, and we even threw in a win in the NCAA National Championship game against the spread.

Las Vegas has a lot invested in the NFL playoffs. Even where the favorites win, and even where we get the game completely right, betting the better team to cover is very dangerous. Illegal hands to the face, poof, there goes your defensive touchdown. Down 3? An end zone interception wipes away the tying score. About to win? Here’s an incomplete pass to save clock followed by back to back Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary passes.

We’re going to continue with the theory that you need to work with Las Vegas to win in the NFL Playoffs. I like the Denver Broncos to win and I’m taking the money line and teaser opportunities here despite the obvious edge that the top seed has against an injured Pittsburgh Steelers team. We’re also on the Carolina Panthers to defeat the Seattle Seahawks.
