NFL Picks Wild Card Round: 49ers and Cowboys Featured Game

The NFL playoffs have arrived with an additional team in each conference added to the mix. There are several games this weekend to kick things off, with the 49ers and Cowboys headlining the action.

San Francisco 49ers versus Dallas Cowboys

The 49ers come in as the 6th seed in the NFC and the Cowboys are 3rd in the conference. Dallas has a +25 to +20 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator while both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Dallas is a 3.5-point favorite with odds of 1.590 to 2.352 with an over/under of 50.5.  The Score Predictor has the Cowboys in a 31-22 win with 71 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor shows that the teams have been trending in games “over” the line. Note that the 49ers have been far less consistent with regards to their favorite/underdog status. I like the game to be close, but the Cowboys will have enough to win and cover in the end.

Las Vegas Raiders versus Cincinnati Bengals

The Raiders made the playoffs with an overtime win over the Chargers. They face the 4th seed Cincinnati Bengals.  Las Vegas has a +25 to +23 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Bengals are a 5.5-point home favorite with odds of 1.41 to 2.868 and an over/under of 44.5. The Score Predictor is in line with “over” with a 29-24 Bengals win, but with a confidence of only 26 percent.  Neither team has been consistently performing with regards to their favorite/underdog status. I like the Raiders to ride the high or their overtime win. They will win outright in a game going “over” the line.

Philadelphia Eagles versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Eagles rebounded from a 2-5 start to finish 9-8 and claim the 7th seed in the NFC. They have a tough task against the 2nd seeded Buccaneers. Tampa Bay has a +29 to +20 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Buccaneers are 8.5-point home favorites with odds of 1.26 to 3.76 and over/under of 47.5. The Score Predictor has the Buccaneers by a 37-18 score with 86 percent confidence. The Eagles have a shot to stay close with an excellent run game, but you can’t bet against Tom Brady at home against a rookie coach. The Eagles may cover, but the Buccaneers will win in a game “over” the line.

New England Patriots versus Buffalo Bills

Two AFC East teams battle in this one as the 3rd-seeded Bills host the 6th-seeded Patriots. Buffalo has a +29 to +22 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Buffalo is 4.5-point favorite with odds of 1.420 to 2.612 with an over/under of 44.5. The Score Predictor likes the Bills in a 37-21 rout with 82 percent confidence. Both teams have been relatively stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. It’s hard to pick against Bill Belichick in the playoffs, but the Bills are home and have the better team. Go with Buffalo by a touchdown in a game “over” the line.
