NFL Picks Week Two: New Orleans Saints at Cleveland Browns

It’s rare that I disagree with such a strong signal from the computer, but I am going my own way on this game. I just don’t see the Cleveland Browns hanging with an angry Saints team that fumbled away a win last week. The Browns looked good against Pitt, the Browns are home, and the Browns are better than most people give them credit for. The spread is big and the Saints are on the road… from a mechanical, algorithmic approach, I understand the output. I just don’t agree.

The Saints offense has too many weapons for the Cleveland Browns to shut down. I don’t think they’ll get the pressure on Drew Brees necessary to slow this offense enough for Cleveland to keep up. I think Thursday proved the Steelers offense isn’t very good… and I love this matchup.

Most importantly in this prediction, I believe in the Saints defense and Rob Ryan. I fully expect last week’s explosion by Matt Ryan to be something of an outlier. This defense is mediocre – but not as terrible as they looked last week.

I know the computer likes the Browns plus the points, and we won supporting them last week and lost on the Saints, but I think New Orleans takes this one convincingly.
