The NFL season is nearing the halfway point and the two Super Bowl participants from last season sit on top with identical 6-1 records. There is a full slate of games for week 8 with San Francisco hosting Cincinnati headlining the action.
Cincinnati Bengals versus San Francisco 49ers
Cincinnati is coming on strong after a slow start, while San Francisco is looking to end a two-game skid. The 49ers are 4.5-point favorites with odds of 1.51 to 2.587 with an over/under of 43.5. There is a 67 percent win rate picking the 49ers over the last six contests. Note that the teams are trending on opposite sides of the over/under line with the exception of last week when both teams were in games under the line. There is a good underdog value pick with the Bengals. In addition, there is a high probability of this game being decided by one score. I like the 49ers to bounce back but like the Bengals to cover in a game decided by a field goal.
Los Angeles Rams versus Dallas Cowboys
The Rams head to Dallas coming off a 3-point loss to the Steelers. Dallas is coming off a bye, last winning against the Chargers in week 6. Dallas is a solid 6.5-point favorite with odds of 1.41 to 2.974 with an over/under of 45.5. Both teams are trending in games “under” the line, but the Score Prediction is 45-19 in favor of Dallas with 66 percent confidence. Dallas took down the Rams in Los Angeles last year by a 22-10 score and have been a much more consistent team with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I like Dallas by a touchdown but pass on the over/under bet.
Jacksonville Jaguars versus Pittsburgh Steelers
Both teams come in “burning hot” with the Jaguars winners of their last four. They are a 2.5-point road favorite with odds of 1.720 to 2.131 with an over/under of 40.5. Jacksonville has covered in 80 percent of their last five as a favorite, while Pittsburgh has covered the same rate in their last five as an underdog. The Jaguars have a +27 to +22 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams have been trending in games on opposite sides of the line which makes picking the over/under a pass for this contest. I like the Jaguars to win by a field goal.
New York Jets versus New York Giants
In this battle of New York, the Giants come off a win over Washington while the Jets are coming off a bye after an upset of the Eagles in week 6. The Jets are 2.5-point favorites with odds of 1.64 to 2.274 with an over/under of 36.5. Paying attention to trends on the road or at home is pointless in this one since both teams play their home games at the same stadium. Note that there is an 85 percent chance that this game is decided by one score. The Jets have a +11 to +1 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The Giants have been the more consistent team with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I like the Jets in a game “over” the line.
Atlanta Falcons versus Tennessee Titans
Tennessee looks to snap a two-game skid at home versus the Falcons, who are 2-1 over their last three games. Atlanta is a 2.5-point road favorite with odds of 1.72 to 2.131 with an over/under of 35.5. The teams have been involved in games “under” the line in their last nine games combined. The Falcons have a +16 to +8 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. Be aware that Tennessee has been very unstable, but Atlanta has been among the most stable teams in the NFL. I don’t like the downward spiral for the Titans and Atlanta is coming on lately, so go with the Falcons to cover in a game “under” the line.
