NFC West Preseason Predictions: Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals
While I expect this division to cannibalize itself a little bit, I don’t think anyone is as good as the Seattle Seahawks this year. The Seahawks should have won the Super Bowl, but elected, from the shotgun, not to run the ball with the best goal line back in football. In response, they’ve added a bunch of pieces and gotten a lot better, and I don’t think anyone will compete until the salary cap destroys them.
1. Seattle Seahawks (14-2): It’s hard to be completely unstoppable from the west coast because of how far you have to travel for a lot of those road games. That said, it’s hard to be stopped when you add one of the best offensive weapons in football to the best rushing offense in the game. I choose not to forgive them for their Super Bowl mishap that cost me money, but to pick anyone ahead of them is just silly.
2. Arizona Cardinals (10 – 6): Arizona is really good. In fact, if they had a quarterback last year they might have had a chance to do some really big things in the postseason. That said, they still have to deal with the Seahawks and the rest of this division isn’t that easy either. Mix in a couple losses outside the division and I think they’re a 10-6 team.
3. St. Louis Rams (9-7): The Rams have long been building a competitive team. Now they have a new quarterback and an effective rushing game. Suddenly, I think the Rams will compete for a playoff spot. I don’t think they’re elite enough to take out the Cardinals or Seahawks, but watch out for this team in 2015.
4. San Francisco 49ers (8-8): I’m really tired of this team. They fired a great coach, invested in a quarterback that hasn’t delivered, and allowed chaos in the locker room to get to the field. I don’t think they’ve got the talent to be a contender this year, and I will enjoy every moment of their struggles. This division is simply too good.
