NBA Predictions December 7: Will the Lakers continue their push towards the top of the West?

The NBA season has pushed past the quarter mark, as teams look to position themselves in the conference playoff picture before the new year. Can the Lakers take down San Antonio and continue their rise in the West? Will the 76ers stay on the tail of the Raptors  in the East? Note that all information is for games played through December 3.

Philadelphia 76ers versus Detroit Pistons

The 76ers have one four straight, but are only 4-7 on the road. They look to improve on that against the Pistons, who are 9-4 at home and 7-3 over their last ten. The 76ers hold a +27 to +21 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “burning hot down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are very stable, according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. The 76ers have won five of the last six meetings between the teams and are 9-2 since the Jimmy Butler trade. In a close game decided late, look for the 76ers to edge the Pistons.

Toronto Raptors versus Brooklyn Nets

Toronto is cruising to the best record in the NBA at 20-5. While not likely to maintain an .800 winning percentage all season, they have a huge advantage over the Nets. Brooklyn is just 8-17, +4 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Compare this to +29 and “burning hot down” for Toronto. Add to the fact that both teams are incredibly stable and Toronto has a 12 game winning streak over the Nets. Toronto will win this win in a blowout.

Memphis Grizzlies versus New Orleans Pelicans

Memphis is 13-9 and 2.5 games behind in the Western Conference, while New Orleans is a game under .500 and five games out.  Both teams are “ice cold down”, while the Pelicans have a +16 to +4 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, despite a worse record. The teams have split the last six meetings.  New Orleans has been very good at home, posting a 9-3 record and are the more stable of the two teams according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Likely a home favorite, the Pelicans should be able to maintain home court advantage and earn a victory.

Los Angeles Lakers versus San Antonio Spurs

The Lakers are climbing in the Western Conference after winning seven of their last ten. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and just two games out in the conference. San Antonio is a game under .500 with an “average” status and have a +15 to +13 disadvantage to the Lakers on the Power Ranking Indicator. Los Angeles has had the upper hand lately between the teams, winning four of the last six meetings. Both teams rank high in stability and the Spurs are a solid 7-4 at home.  This game is somewhat of a toss up, but give a narrow edge to the Lakers.

Golden State Warriors versus Milwaukee Bucks

The Warriors have struggled by their standards, coming in at 16-9 and just 4-6 over their last ten.  Milwaukee lost their last game and are 6-4 over their last ten. Golden State holds a +24 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Despite dominating most teams the past few years, the Warriors have struggle a bit against the Bucks, splitting the last six meetings. Likely a slight road underdog, the Warriors could have their troubles in this one. Certainly they are capable of a win, but I’m leaning towards the Bucks to continue their winning ways at home.
