The NBA season has finally reached the post season and there are several interesting first round match ups. I will feature four of them here with the 76ers versus Celtics headlining play.
Philadelphia 76ers versus Boston Celtics
The 76ers enter as the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Celtics are the 3rd seed. Philadelphia has won three of the four regular season meetings between the teams. Boston is a 5.5 point favorite in the opener and has a +28 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Neither team has been playing its best basketball lately, as their “average up” and “average” status on the Team Strength Oscillator indicates. Expect a high scoring series, as both teams are above the over/under line according to the Totals Predictor. The 76ers and Celtics are both consistently performing with respect to their favorite/underdog status as indicated by the Team Volatility Oscillator. In a normal situation, I give the 76ers a great chance, being they are extremely difficult to beat at home. However in the bubble, there is no home court advantage. Look for Boston to win, but don’t be surprised if the series goes the distance.
Utah Jazz versus Denver Nuggets
Denver enters as the 3rd seed in the Western Conference and Utah is the number 6 seed. Both teams are playing underwhelming basketball at the moment with status on the Team Strength Oscillator at “ice cold down” and “ice cold up”, respectively. Denver have a +20 to +13 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and are a 3.5-point favorite in the opener. Both teams are showing good stability, at +24 to +22 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. If looking to bet the over/under, place your money on the over according to the Totals Predictor. The Nuggets have won all three games between the teams this season by six points or less. Expect much of the same with the Nuggets taking the series in four or five close games.
Brooklyn Nets versus Toronto Raptors
Brooklyn comes into the series as the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference versus the 2nd seeded Toronto Raptors. The Raptors are a 9.5-point favorite in the opener and are “burning hot” at the moment and +29 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Brooklyn is “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +20 on the Power Ranking Indicator. IF betting the “over/under”, lean over as the Nets are playing in games well over the line. The Raptors have been extremely stable at +35 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. This means they are consistently winning as favorites and losing as underdogs. Considering they are a heavy favorite in this series, there is little to indicate the Nets have much of a chance. Pick the Raptors in five.
Dallas Mavericks versus Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers enter the post season as the 2nd seed in the Western Conference and face the 7th seeded Mavericks. Los Angeles won three of the four meetings between the teams this season and are a 6.5-point favorite in the first game. Both teams have been playing in games going over the line, so betting “over” is a very wise choice for games in this series. The Clippers have a +27 to +16 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Los Angeles is also showing far more stability at +29 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. There is little pointing towards the Mavericks in this series against a team that is a favorite to win the NBA title. The Clippers should win the series in four or five games.
