The 2023-24 NBA season is underway. Teams are trying to find rhythm after a long offseason. There is a full slate of games for Monday, November 6 with the Nets hosting the Bucks in the featured game.
Milwaukee Bucks versus Brooklyn Nets
The Bucks are off to a relatively slow 2-2 start and look to rebound against the Nets, who are “burning hot” after winning their last two games. The teams have been putting up a lot of points early in the season even though the score prediction of 104-102 in favor of the Bucks would put this game “under” the line. Neither team has performed consistently with regard to their favorite/underdog status, as indicated by the Team Volatility Oscillator. Milwaukee won the season series between the teams last year, taking three of the five games. I don’t see much changing this time around. Go with the Bucks in a game “over” the line.
Los Angeles Lakers versus Miami Heat
Here’s a case with two teams heading in completely opposite directions. The Lakers have won their last two, including an overtime win over the Clippers and the Heat have dropped their last four. This contributes to the “burning hot” versus “dead” status in favor of Los Angeles as well as the +12 to +2 disparity on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams have been trending in games on opposite sides of the line. The score predictor has the Lakers in a 15-point blowout, but last season the teams split the two meetings with the Heat winning in blowout fashion at home. I like the Lakers this time around but pass on the “over/under” bet.
Boston Celtics versus Minnesota Timberwolves
The Celtics are on fire after their latest 155-point outburst and an undefeated record early in the season. They head to Minnesota looking to take down the Timberwolves, who are off to a 2-2 start. Boston has a +28 to +13 advantage on the Power Ranks Indicator. Boston has been involved in games “over” the line in the last three, while Minnesota has been trending in games “under”, which makes placing the over/under bet an iffy proposition. A bit surprisingly, the score prediction is for Minnesota to prevail by a point with a high degree of confidence of 88 percent. Boston has been the more stable team this season and I cannot bet against them as long as they are undefeated. Go for the Celtics by a few points but pass on the over/under bet.
New Orleans Pelicans versus Denver Nuggets
Denver suffered their first loss of the season in their most recent outing by 21 against Minnesota. They look to rebound against a New Orleans team that is “burning hot” after a two-game winning streak. Despite a high-powered attack in Denver, the team has been involved in games “under” the line in each contest this season. The score prediction of 117-114 in favor of New Orleans would put this game “over” the line, but be aware that the confidence is less than the odds of correctly guessing a coin flip. The two teams split the meetings between them last season. This game really is a toss-up, but I will give the Nuggets the edge at home in a game “under” the line.
Washington Wizards versus Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers come in “burning hot” after a 3-1 start, while the Wizards are “ice cold down” after dropping their last two. Philadelphia is +25 to +8 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Both teams are trending in games “over” the line and the score prediction is a 113-112 win for the 76ers with a relatively high level of confidence of 77 percent. Be aware that both teams are performing consistently with regard to their favorite/underdog status. Last season the teams split the four games between them, each going 1-1 at home. I like the 76ers at home in this one in a game “over” the line.
