NBA Picks January 9: Bulls and Mavericks Headline Action

The NBA regular season is approaching the trade deadline and the conference races are heating up. There are many games on tap for January 9 with the Bulls and Mavericks the featured game.

Chicago Bulls versus Dallas Mavericks

The Bulls enter with the best record in the NBA and try to keep up the pace in Dallas. Both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and the Bulls have a +29 to +22 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Score Predictor has the Bulls winning by a 114-100 margin with 80 percent confidence.  The Totals Predictor indicates that betting “under” is a better play. Both teams have been consistently performing according to their favorite/underdog status, as indicated by the Team Volatility Oscillator. Go with the Bulls to win by about six points.

San Antonio Spurs versus Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn enters 2nd in the Eastern Conference and they host the Spurs. The Nets have a +17 to +4 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Score Predictor has the Nets winning by a 109-106 score with 70 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor shows the teams are trending in games on opposite sides of the line, making this bet one to avoid.  I like the Nets to win at home by six to 10 points.

Denver Nuggets versus Oklahoma City Thunder

In this battle of two Western Conference teams, the Thunder host the Nuggets. Denver has a +19 to +4 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average down” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Notice that the Thunder have been extremely consistent at +13 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Score Predictor gives the Nuggets a 113-109 win with 54 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor show the teams are trending more in games “under” the line. I like the Nuggets in a road win, perhaps in overtime in a lower scoring game.

Cleveland Cavaliers versus Golden State Warriors

Golden State enters as one of the top teams in the NBA. They have a +28 to +19 advantage over the Cavaliers on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have been consistently performing according to their favorite/underdog status. The Score Predictor has the Warriors by a 111-105 score with 31 percent confidence.  I like the Warriors and “over” the line.

Sacramento Kings versus Portland Trailblazers

These two teams are heading nowhere fast. The Kings are “average down” and +9 on the Power Ranking Indicator and Portland is “dead” and +8 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Score Predictor has the Trailblazers winning by the score of 123-119 with 46 percent level of confidence. The teams have been trending on opposite sides of the line, so betting the over/under is not a wise play. Note that Portland has been very stable at +16 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like Portland at home to win and cover.
