NBA Picks January 30: Lakers and Celtics Continue Rivalry

As the last weekend in January approaches, the NBA season has reached the quarter mark. Numerous games as scheduled for January 30 with the Lakers and Celtics headlining the action.

Los Angeles Lakers versus Boston Celtics

The Lakers are second in the Western Conference behind the Utah Jazz and the Celtics enter 5th in the Eastern Conference. Los Angeles holds a +28 to +25 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Lakers aver “average” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Totals Predictor indicates the teams are trending on opposite sides of the over/under, so it’s best to avoid the bet in this game. Los Angeles has been the more stable team as indicated by the Team Volatility Oscillator. The teams have not met yet this season but continue their longtime rivalry.  Look for the Lakers to come away with a road win.

Milwaukee Bucks versus Charlotte Hornets

The Bucks are second in the Eastern Conference and the Hornets are 12th with a record of 7-11. Milwaukee holds a +22 to +5 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  Expect a lower scoring defensive battle since both teams have been consistently under the line. The Hornets are -4 on the Team Volatility Oscillator, indicating they are not performing consistently according to their favorite/underdog status. This shouldn’t be much of a contest with the Bucks winning easily.

Memphis Grizzlies versus San Antonio Spurs

The Grizzlies are eighth in the Western Conference and head to San Antonio to face the 7th seeded Spurs. Memphis has a +21 to +16 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have shown moderate stability according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Spurs won by the score of 131-119 as a road underdog in the first meeting. Expect more of the same in this one. with a low scoring game going the “under”. The score may be a little closer, but take the Spurs to win the game.

Phoenix Suns versus Dallas Mavericks

The Suns and Mavericks are both on the outside of the top eight seeds in the Western Conference and looking in. Phoenix won the first meeting between the teams this season by the score of 106-102 as a home favorite. They hold a +14 to +8 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams have struggled lately, at “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Consistency is something neither team can boast about, both coming in negative on the Team Volatility Oscillator.  This game is just about a coin flip, but I will go with the Mavericks to win because they are playing at home.

Portland Trailblazers versus Chicago Bulls

Portland is 5th in the Western Conference and the Bulls are battling for the last playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls won the first meeting as a road underdog by the score of 111-108. The Trailblazers hold a +21 to +10 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are “average down” status. It’s best to avoid the over/under on this game and both teams are showing moderate consistency with respect to their favorite/underdog status. Portland has too much overall talent and will come away with a road win in this one.
