NBA Picks January 28: Clippers and Heat Headline Action

The NBA season is nearing the midway point and conference races are heating up. The Eastern Conference is bunched at the top with the Heat leading the way. They take on the Clippers in the featured battle for the day.

Los Angeles Clippers versus Miami Heat

The Clippers enter 9th in the Western Conference and the Heat are on top in the Eastern Conference. The Heat have a +21 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Score Predictor has the Heat by a 111-108 score with 68 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor shows that both teams have been trending in games “over”, making that the best bet. The Clippers have been more stable, although the Heat is still +5 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Heat to win by five points in a game “over” the line.

Boston Celtics versus Atlanta Hawks

Both teams are currently outside of the playoff picture at 9th and 11th in the Eastern Conference. Boston has a +16 to +15 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator while both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Score Predictor has the Hawks by a 119-111 score with 20 percent confidence. Boston has been trending in games over the line in four of their last six and the Hawks have been trending over in five of their last six. Notice that both teams have been very consistently performing with regards to their favorite/underdog status. I like the Hawks at home in a tight, high-scoring game, perhaps decided in overtime.

Chicago Bulls versus San Antonio Spurs

The Bulls take their second-best record in the Eastern Conference into San Antonio to face the 12th seed in the Western Conference. The Bulls are +18 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Spurs are +2 and “average”, respectively. The Score Predictor has the Bulls winning by the score of 117-113 with 87 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor is leaning towards this game going “over” the line.  Since both teams are extremely stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator, pay attention to the favorite/underdog status. I like the Bulls by three points or less in a game “over” the line.

New York Knicks versus Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee is in a tight group near the top of the Eastern Conference and the Knicks are on the outside looking in. The Bucks have a +21 to +11 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Milwaukee is given the edge by a 113-111 score with 34 percent confidence on the Score Predictor. It’s best to avoid the over/under with the teams both hitting each the over and under in about 50 percent of their last six contests.  Stability has not been an issue for either team, coming in at +15 and +13 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Bucks by 6 to 10 points but avoid the “over/under” bet.

Los Angeles Lakers versus Charlotte Hornets

The Lakers enter 8th in the Western Conference and the Hornets are 7th in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte is +15 and “average down” while the Lakers are +9 and “average”. The Score Predictor has the Hornets by the score of 115-105 with 53 percent confidence. Avoid the over/under bet since the teams have been trending inconsistently around both sides of the line. Los Angeles is +14 on the Team Volatility Oscillator and they are going to be road underdogs. Go with the Hornets by five points but avoid the over/under bet.
