NBA Picks January 25: Mavericks face Jazz in game of the day

The NBA season is past the halfway mark and nearing the trade deadline and All-Star break. There are five games scheduled for Saturday, January 25 with the Jazz hosting the Mavericks the featured game.

Dallas Mavericks versus Utah Jazz

The Jazz enter with the third-best record in the Western Conference, while the Mavericks are fifth in the conference. Dallas is 14-5 on the road, “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator ad +21 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Utah has a 17-3 home record, “burning hot” and +23 ranking. Both teams have been involved in high scoring games, so better the “over” is a wise choice in this one. Utah is the more stable team at +25 to +8 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The teams have not met yet this season. This should be a close, exciting game, but give the Jazz the edge at home to come away with the win.

Brooklyn Nets versus Detroit Pistons

The teams are battling for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Nets are currently 8th and are 8-13 on the road, while the Pistons are 9th and 8-13 at home. Detroit has a +13 to +10 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, and both teams are “ice cold down” status. The Pistons have been performing a bit more consistent with respect to their favorite/underdog status according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Expect a high scoring game, so the “over” is the safe bet. Detroit won the first meeting between the teams at home and expect the same in this one, in a tight game.

Chicago Bulls versus Cleveland Cavaliers

Chicago looks to make a postseason push, currently 10th in the Eastern Conference and 7-15 on the road. The Cavaliers have been dreadful, next to last in the conference and 6-15 at home. They are “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +3 on the Power Ranking Indicator, compared to “average down” and +9 for Chicago. As is the case with the other two games picked so far, expect the game to go “over” as opposed to “under”. The teams have split the meetings so far this season and both are performing solidly according to their favorite/underdog status. Go with the Cavaliers for a home win.

Oklahoma City Thunder versus Minnesota Timberwolves

Oklahoma City enters play with the 7th best record in the Western Conference and is 11-10 on the road. Minnesota has struggled to 6-15 at home and has the 2nd worse record in the conference. Heading in opposite directions, the Thunder are “burning hot” and +18, while the Timberwolves are “dead” and +5. The Thunder are the more stable of the teams are +11 to +7 on the Team Volatility Oscillator and have dominated play between the teams, winning both games this season. I expect that to consider. Take Oklahoma City to earn a road victory.

Los Angeles Lakers versus Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia enters 5th in the Eastern Conference and have an outstanding 20-2 record at home. They face the best in the Western Conference, as the Lakers are 18-4 on the road. Los Angeles has a +28 to +21 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, but the 76ers have been trending better lately, “burning hot” versus “average”. The teams have both been extremely stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Best to avoid the over/under in this one as the teams are trending on opposite sides of the line. Without Joel Embiid it will be difficult for the 76ers to take this one. It would not be a shock for Philadelphia to pull it out, but look for the Lakers to come away with a road win in a close contest.
