NBA Picks April 18: Nets and Heat Battle in Eastern Conference

The NBA regular season is down to its final month before the playoffs begin. There are still battles going on for positioning. With several games set to tip-off on Sunday, the Nets and Heat headline action.

Brooklyn Nets versus Miami Heat

The Nets are battling the 76ers for top seed in the Eastern Conference and the Heat are 7th in the conference. The Nets have a +25 to +17 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator while both teams are “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The over/under bet is best avoided in this game with teams trending on opposite sides of the line. The Team Volatility Oscillator indicates the teams are both performing consistently according to their favorite/underdog status. The Nets have the Heats number this season, winning both games. I see that trend continuing. Go with the Nets with a road win.

Indiana Pacers versus Atlanta Hawks

The Pacers are currently 9th in the Eastern Conference taking on the 4th seeded Hawks. Atlanta has a +23 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have been involved in high-scoring games, therefore betting “over” is a good play. Atlanta has been the more stable of the teams according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Pacers took down the Hawks by 12 points in their first meeting of the season on February 13. The Hawks will bounce back and take care of home court, winning the game.

Portland Trailblazers versus Charlotte Hornets

Portland heads to Charlotte with the 6th seed in the Western Conference and the Hornets are 8th in the Eastern Conference. Both teams have struggled recently and are “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Hornets have a +13 to +11 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Totals Predictor is showing that the teams have been involved in a lot of lower-scoring games, so betting the under is a wise play. Portland has been more consistently performing according to their favorite/underdog status.  Charlotte will win in a game decided late.

Sacramento Kings versus Dallas Mavericks

At 12th in the Western Conference, the Kings are heading nowhere, but the Mavericks are looking for a playoff spot, 7th in the conference. They have a +16 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average down” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. All indications is that this will be a lower-scoring game, so betting “under” is a smart bet. The Kings have been more stable at +12 to +7 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Dallas will be a home favorite and should win easily.

Minnesota Timberwolves versus Los Angeles Clippers

Minnesota is 3-7 over their last ten games and last in the Western Conference. The Clippers enter third in the conference and have a +29 to +1 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” to “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The over/under bet is best avoided in this game since the teams trending on opposite sides of the line. Both teams have been very stable at +26 and +20 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Clippers won the first meeting between the teams on February 10 and the outcome will be much the same this time around.
