NBA Championship Pick, Predictions: Can LeBron James Lead Cleveland Cavaliers Past Golden State Warriors?
The Eastern Conference was highly mediocre this year. Half the teams in the East that made the playoffs probably wouldn’t have made it if they played out west. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were our picks for the Eastern Conference and it cashed in with relative ease. Nobody could really give them a game, and we saw that on paper before the playoffs even began.
What’s scary is that the Golden State Warriors ran a far more competitive Western Conference with a similarly uncontested might.
I think the Golden State Warriors are one of those “historically great” teams that is really hard to imagine falling short. We had this championship matchup from the drop, and I’m glad we’ve gotten this far even after the wave of injuries that crippled the Cleveland Cavaliers.
I want to pick the Cavs, but I don’t think I can. I’m a huge LeBron James fan, I’d like to see him get another ring, but the Warriors are probably too much for Cleveland.
First, the Cavs have too many injuries. Cleveland has lost Kevin Love for the season, Kyrie Irving missed most of the last series and is far from 100%, and even King James himself is banged up. You wouldn’t necessarily know it from looking at his stat lines, but LeBron James is hampered and I think that even with a full squad they would have some serious trouble with the Golden State Warriors.
Secondly, I look at the doofus of a coach the Cleveland Cavaliers have and wait for him to blow a game. Mistakes like the ones David Blatt continues to try to make cannot happen in the NBA Finals. While I like to think LeBron James can do it all himself, coaching could make a difference if matchup issues aren’t addressed properly – especially with this team so beat up.
My heart says bet the Cavs because it’s what I’d like to see happen and I want to see LeBron James bring home a championship, but there are simply too many factors going against Cleveland in this series. I’m on the Warriors, just like everyone else, because I feel like I have to be.
