MLB Predictions June 14 – 16: Cubs and Dodgers top weekend match ups

With about a month before the All-Star break, the league battles are heating up. The Dodgers and Cubs highlight the games in what could be a playoff preview. Several other key showdowns are featured as well.

Philadelphia Phillies versus Atlanta Braves

The Philadelphia Phillies head to Atlanta battling for first place in the NL East. The Phillies have lost two in a row and are 4-6 over their last ten. They are +22 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Atlanta has won four straight and 7-3 over their last ten. They are “burning hot” and +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams show stability, at +13 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. If considering the over/under, the Phillies have been involved in games trending under and the Braves are trending well over. Nick Pivetta, Aaron Nola and Jerad Eickhoff are scheduled for the Phillies and Max Fried, Kevin Gausman and Mike Foltynewicz are set for the Braves. Gausman is the worst bet on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator and -2129 and Max Fried is the most solid bet at +699. Give the Braves the edge at home to win two of three in this series.

San Diego Padres versus Colorado Rockies

The Padres and Rockies are both hovering around the .50 mark in the NL West. The Rockies are 6-4 over their last ten and are “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  The Padres are 4-6 over their last ten and are “ice cold down”. Both teams are +14 on the Power Ranking Indicator and nearly even in stability according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. It’s best to avoid betting the over/under in this series according to the team trends on the Totals Predictor.  Of the six scheduled starters, only Jeff Hoffman for the Rockies has been in the red on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. The best bet for the weekend is German Marquez, going for the Rockies on Saturday. Look for Colorado to take care of business at home, winning two.

Chicago Cubs versus Los Angeles Dodgers

Two of the top teams in the National League battle in the series of the weekend. The Dodgers are 7-3 over their last ten and the Cubs are 6-4 over the same stretch. However, with each coming off losses, they are “average down” and “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Dodgers have the slimmest edge of +29 to +28 on the Power Ranking Indicator and are among the most stable teams in the league. Therefore, the favorite/underdog status is important to consider. Both teams are trending in comes scoring “under”,  which is the best bet for the games in this series. Yu Darvish and Jose Quintana, who are scheduled to pitch for the Cubs on Saturday and Sunday, have been poor bets, while Rich HIll and Hyun-Jin Ryu have been profitable for the  Dodgers. Look for the Dodgers to win the series and while a sweep is unlikely, not out of the question.

Los Angeles Angels versus Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays are battling the Yankees in the AL East, while the Angels are fourth in the AL West. At 5-5 over their last ten, the Angels are “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Rays have won their last two and are “burning hot”. Tampa Bay is one of the most stable teams in the league, performing consistently as their favorite/underdog status indicates. Best to avoid the over/under in games for this series as the teams are trending in opposite sides of the line. Griffin Channing has been a solid bet for the Angeles and is scheduled to pitch Sunday, while Blake Snell is always a good bet for the Rays, scheduled for Friday. The Rays are the more complete team and playing at home, should take two of three.

New York Yankees versus Chicago White Sox

The Yankees are tied for first in the AL East, despite a mediocre 5-5 over their last ten. They are +16 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  Chicago is third in the AL Central and are also 5-5 over their last ten.  At “ice cold down”, the White Sox are +13 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Lis Giolito is scheduled to pitch for the White Sox on Friday and is an excellent bet at +855 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. The best bet for the series is Masahiro Tanaka on Sunday for the Yankees, coming in at +1164 profit. The smart bet for the over/under is “under” since both teams are trending “under” on the Totals Predictor. The Yankees will do the job on the road and win the series, taking two of three.
