MLB Predictions: April 6 – 8

The baseball season is a week old and it’s time for everyone to think about their picks for this weekend’s games. Here’s the lineup for the weekend of April 6 through 8.

Note that all information from the oscillators is for games played through April 2.

Kansas City Royals versus Cleveland Indians

The Indians hold a +12 to +2 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams are on a decline on the Team Strength Oscillator, with the Indians at “average down” and Kansas City as “ice cold down”.  The pitching match up for Friday features Ian Kennedy for the Royals versus Carlos Carrasco for the Indians. Carraso is a much better bet at +61 compared to -1061 for Kennedy. On Saturday, Trevor Bauer for the Indians at  +338 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator is the call over Jason Hammel at -762. Sunday’s game is a toss up with both Mike Clevinger for the Indians and Jakob Junis for the Royals being marginally profitable. Look for the Indians to likely take 2 of 3 in this series.

Baltimore Orioles versus New York Yankees

The teams are relatively evenly matched coming in, with the Yankees holding a slim +13 to +11 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” to “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  As for the pitching match ups, the Yankees have a decisive advantage on Friday with CC Sabathia versus Kevin Gausman in terms of the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. An even larger advantage for the Orioles is on Saturday with Chris Tillman at +3841 versus Sonny Gray at -1509.  The finale features two pitches have been poor bets. Mike Wright is -353 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator, while Jordan Montgomery is only slightly better at -209. The Yankees should take the series at home, 2 games to 1.

Toronto Blue Jays versus Texas Rangers

In  a series with two teams heading in opposite directions, the Blue Jays hold a +21 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Rangers are plummeting at “ice cold down”. The pitching match up favors the Blue Jays on Friday with Marco Estrada a profitable bet at +753 compared to -684 for Matt Moore. In Saturday’s game, Marcus Stroman goes for the Blue Jays, while Mike Minor takes the ball for the Rangers. Both have been poor bets, so that one is a toss up. Sunday’s game favors the Rangers by a wide margin. Cole Hamels has been extremely profitable at +1481, while Jaime Garcia has been a terrible bet at -1329. Go for the Blue Jays in game one, Rangers on Sunday and avoid betting the middle game.

Chicago Cubs versus Milwaukee Brewers

In this NL Central Division match up, the Cubs are just +3 on the Power Ranking Indicator versus +24 for the Brewers. Similarly, the Brewers are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus “ice cold down”. In the pitching match ups, Yu Darvish goes for the Cubs on Friday versus Brandon Woodruff. Darvish has been a very poor bet at -1134, while Woodruff is -1678 on a small sample size. Saturday’s game heavily favors the Brewers in teams of the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Zack Davis is +1688, while Jose Quintana is -627. On the flip side, Tyler Chatwood and the Cubs have a decided advantage in Sunday’s game versus Chase Anderson. I pick Darvish to turn things around on Friday and Chatwood winning on Sunday, so the Cubs will take the series, 2 game to 1.

Cincinnati Reds versus Pittsburgh Pirates

In the most lopsided match up this weekend according to the oscillators, the Pirates come in at +27 and “burning hot” versus 0 and “dead” for the Reds. The numbers on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator confirm the heavily favorite status for the Pirates. The Pirates will send Trevor Williams, Chad Kuhl and Jameson Taillon to the hill versus Luis Castillo, Sal Romano and Tyler Mahle for the Reds. Each of the Pirates starters this weekend are profitable, while all of the Reds starters are in the red on the Pitcher Proftit Oscillator. Look for the Pirates to sweep the series.

San Diego Padres versus Houston Astros

The defending World Series champions take on the Padres and have a clear overall advantage. They are +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator compared to +4 for the Padres and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus “ice cold down”. However, Friday’s game appears to be a better bet for the Padres as Luis Perdomo is +327 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator for the Padres versus -37 for Lance McCullers Jr. Saturday’s game favors Gerit Cole at +553 for the Astros over Bryan Mitchell and -553 for the Padres. Neither of Sunday’s starters, Charlie Morton or Tyson Ross have been profitable. Nevertheless, Morton is the better pitcher and the Astros decisively the better team. The Astros will take 2 of 3 this weekend.
