MLB Playoffs Picks: ALDS round, Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels – ABC Progression
The Kansas City Royals rallied to pull off one of the most exciting playoff wins I can remember, and certainly one of the best in their franchise history. Unfortunately, they also burned their ace and enter this series a notch lower in their playoff pitching rotation than the Los Angeles Angels.
I think, as baseball intended when they came up with the play-in game, this is a tremendous edge. The Royals are scrappy, I love their brand of small ball and stealing bases, and I think they have a deep enough rotation to be dangerous. That said, this matchup, and the match ups coming next do not appear to bode well for them.
The Angels are home, have their ace going, and Justin Vargas has been getting lit up in his last few outings down their stretch. Fresh, with a big pitching edge, and on their home field, I think the Angels get it done. They’re the better team, and the line is actually pretty reasonable here. I also like the games to come as an ABC progression opportunity, particularly the games on their home field.
The computer seems to find value in the road team, but it doesn’t seem worth it to me. We’ll go with a home team progression here, banking on the Royals not being “a team of destiny” that comes in and ruins my playoff bracket.
