MLB Picks September 19: Dodgers versus Reds Highlight Possible Playoff Preview

The MLB season is down to the final two weeks and every game is vitally important for teams still in the playoff race. There is a full slate of games for September 19 with the Dodgers and Reds headlining the action.

Los Angeles Dodgers versus Cincinnati Reds

The Dodgers are on the tails of the Giants for 1st in the NL West, while the Reds are 3rd in the NL Central and fighting for a wild card spot. The Dodgers hold a +21 to +6 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to pitch for the Dodgers and Wade Miley is set to take the mound for the Reds. Kershaw is 9-7 with a 3.33 ERA and -$98 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Miley is 12-6 with a 3.09 ERA and a solid +$372. The Totals Predictor shows the teams trending on opposite sides of the over/under line and the Scores Predictor has the Dodgers winning by an 8-2 score with 68 percent confidence. Go with the Dodgers to win, but avoid the over/under.

Cleveland Indians versus New York Yankees

Both teams come into play second in their respective divisions.  The Yankees have a +20 to +5 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus  “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Eli Morgan is set to pitch for Indians and the pitcher has not yet been named for the Yankees. Morgan is 2-7 with a high 6.03 ERA and -$3 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. The teams are trending on opposite sides of the over/under line. The Scores Predictor gives a slight edge to the Indians with a final score of 7-5 with 57 percent confidence.  I will go against the Scores Predictor and take the Yankees, but avoid the over/under bet.

Chicago Cubs versus Milwaukee Brewers

In this NL Central battle, the 1st place Brewers host the struggling Cubs, who are 4th in the division. The Brewers have an advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Neither team has named their starting pitcher for this game. The Scores Predictor has the Brewers winning by a 7-1 margin with 66 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor indicates both teams have been trending “over”, which is a bit contradictory to the Scores Predictor. Go with the Brewers to win and cover, but avoid betting the over/under.

San Diego Padres versus St. Louis Cardinals

Both teams are battling for a NL wild-card spot and come in to play with nearly an identical record.  The Padres are 4-6 over their last ten games, are +7 on the Power Ranking Indicator, and “dead up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Cardinals are +27 on the Power Ranking Indicator, having won 7 of their last 10 and are “burning hot”. Neither team has named their starting pitcher for this game. The Totals Predictor shows the teams trending on opposite sides of the line and the Scores Predictor has the Cardinals winning by a 6-1 margin with 62 percent confidence. I will take the Cardinals and “under”.

Philadelphia Phillies versus New York Mets

The Phillies and Mets are both playing poorly and are battling to keep their slim playoff chances alive. The Phillies have a +3 to 0 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold up” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Kyle Gibson is scheduled to pitch for the Phillies and Rich Hill will be on the mound for the Mets. Gibson is 10-7 with a 3.49 ERA and +$241 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator, while Hill is 6-7 with a 3.88 ERA and -$97.  The Phillies are picked to win this contest according to the Scores Predictor by the score of 8-2 with 49 percent confidence. I like the Phillies to get a road win, but avoid the over/under.
