MLB Picks June 5: Cardinals and Cubs Battle in NL Central

Nearly one-third of the MLB season is in the books and teams are battling to show they are contenders with the All-Star break a month away. There are several key games for June 5 with the Cardinals and Cubs highlighting the action.

St. Louis Cardinals versus Chicago Cubs

Both teams enter play “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator in this NL Central battle. The Cardinals have a +22 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams have been involved in games “over” the line in six of their last 11 games combined. Adam Wainwright is scheduled to pitch for the Cardinals and
Justin Steele is set to take the mound for the Cubs. Wainwright is 5-4 with a 2.75 ERA and +37 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Steele is 1-5 with a 5.40 ERA and -142. Both teams are showing moderated stability. The Score Predictor has the Cardinals by an 8-3 score with 48 percent confidence. I like the Cardinals but go “under” the line.

Detroit Tigers versus New York Yankees

Detroit heads to New York “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +16 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Yankees enter “average up” and +18, respectively. The Teams have each been involved in games “over” the line in three of their last five games. The Score Predictor has the Tigers by a 4-2 score with 30 percent confidence. Notice that both teams have been performing consistently with regard to their favorite/underdog status, as indicated on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Yankees at home in a game “under” the line.

Minnesota Twins versus Toronto Blue Jays

The two teams head into play going in opposite directions. Toronto is “burning hot” and +29 on the Power Ranking Indicator. On the other hand, Minnesota is “ice cold down” and +9 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Score Predictor has Minnesota by a 4-3 score with 50 percent confidence. However, the Totals Predictor shows that both teams have been trending in games “over” the line. The Twins have been the more stable team, at +15 to +6 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like Toronto in a game “over” the line.

Houston Astros versus Kansas City Royals

The Royals enter the contest “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +5 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Astros are on the opposite end of the spectrum, “burning hot” and +26. Framber Valdez is set to pitch for Houston and Jonathan Heasley is scheduled to take the mound for Kansas City. Valdez is 5-2 with a 2.57 ERA and -112 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Heasley is 0-2 with a 4.66 ERA and -300. The Score Predictor has Houston by a 7-3 score with 76 percent confidence. Note that the Royals have been trending in games “over” but the Astros have been trending “under”. I like the Astros, but avoid the “over/under” bet.

San Diego Padres versus Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee enters “average down” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. They also have a +8 to +6 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Mike Clevinger is set to pitch for the Padres and Eric Lauer will get the ball for the Brewers. Clevinger is 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA and +59 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Lauer has been a great bet at +202 and is 5-1 with a 2.49 ERA. The Score Predictor has the Padres by a 5-1 score with 56 percent confidence. I like the “under” but feel the Brewers will win this one at home.

New York Mets versus Los Angeles Dodgers

The Mets come into play as one of the hottest teams in the league. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus “average down” for the Dodgers. New York has a +27 to +15 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams have been trending in games “over” the line. The Score Predictor has the Mets by the score of 6-4 with 57 percent confidence. The Mets are +8 on the Team Volatility Oscillator and the Dodgers are +15, respectively. I like the Dodgers to take care of business at home in a game “over” the line.
