MLB Picks Contest 2nd Round: Atlanta Braves Vs Philadelphia Phillies

NHL and MLB Picks Contest Round Two: Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies

So far this series is living up to the billing. Two hot teams provided for an exciting finish in Game One before Dan Uggla’s grand slam led the Braves to a comeback win – immediately after allowing five runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth. Let’s hope the excitement continues.

I like Atlanta this year and expect them to do big things in a mediocre division. It’s an interesting lineup with volatile, streaky hitters and right now they’re pounding the ball. I don’t know that they can possibly keep it up, but it should be an interesting series with an equally hot Philadelphia team.

The computer is confused. The algorithm in one parameter likes the Braves to win with 66% likelihood, yet as sharp underdogs there is only a few stars of value in another. With those odds, as dogs, you’d expect a full five-star output here if the parameters were in agreement. That’s why we pick these games, though. They’re not good system plays but they sure are fun for our contest.

The competition is nice and early. Only a handful of participants correctly guessed the outcome of our first-round matchup. There’s still time and this is anyone’s game. I encourage you to participate on the post pinned to the top of our MLB Picks page. As for this game, like most contest picks I won’t have any money on this one. My lean, for purposes of our $100 contest, is to the Braves. They’re the better team, but Cliff Lee is a hell of a pitcher as the line suggests.
