MLB Picks April 17: Dodgers Host Mets in Featured Game

The MLB season is well underway and it’s never too early to look at key matchups that could influence pennant races down the road. There is a full slate of games for April 17 with the Dodgers hosting the Mets in the featured game.

Los Angeles Angels versus Boston Red Sox

The Angels are “burning hot” after winning their last two, while the Red Sox are “ice cold down” and 2-4 over their last six. Los Angeles has a +15 to +9 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. Shohei Ohtani is set to pitch for the Angels. He has a record of 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA. The teams have trended in games on opposite sides of the “over/under” line, and the Score Predictor likes Los Angeles by a 9-6 score with 88 percent confidence. I like the Angels on the road but pass on the over/under bet.

Tampa Bay Rays versus Cincinnati Reds

As of this writing the Rays have yet to lose a game. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +29 on the Power Ranks Indicator. On the flip side of the coin, the Reds are “ice cold up” and 0, respectively. The teams have combined in games “over” the line in 10 of their last 12 and the Score Predictor has the Rays by a comfortable margin of 9-5 with 74 percent confidence. Both teams have been consistent with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I like Tampa Bay to continue their hot streak in a game “over” the line.

Arizona Diamondbacks versus St. Louis Cardinals

Arizona is 5-1 over their last six and comes in “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +19 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The Cardinals are 3-3 over their last six, “average down” and +26 respectively. The teams have been trending in games on opposite sides of the “over/under” line. The Score Predictor likes the Diamondbacks by a 7-3 score with the probability of a toss of a coin. St. Louis has been the more stable team, according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Cardinals at home but pass on the over/under bet.

Chicago Cubs versus Oakland A’s

The Cubs are 4-2 over their last six games and the A’s have struggled to 1-5 over the same span. Chicago is “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +28 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Oakland is on the opposite side of the coin at “dead” and +5. The teams have been involved in games “over” the line in eight of their last 12 combined. The Score Predictor has the Cubs by a 9-3 margin with 60 percent confidence. Oakland has been much more consistent with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I like the Cubs in a game “over” the line.

Atlanta Braves versus San Diego Padres

Atlanta has won their last three, while the Padres have dropped their last two. The Braves are “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +25 to +16 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Atlanta has been trending in games “over” the line, but the Padres have been trending in games “under” the line. The Score Predictor has the Braves in a 9-1 blowout but only 41 percent confidence in the prediction. The Padres have been inconsistent with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I like the Braves in a game “under” the line.

New York Mets versus Los Angeles Dodgers

The Mets are 4-2 over their last six, and the Dodgers are 2-4 in the same span. New York is “average up” versus “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +17 versus +5 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams have been trending on opposite sides of the line and the Score Predictor has the Mets by a 7-5 score with 30 percent confidence. David Peterson is scheduled to pitch for the Mets. He has a record of 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA and -300 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Both teams have been moderately stable in the early part of the season. I like the Mets but pass on the over/under.
