NHL Picks Contest: New York Rangers at New York Islanders
I wanted to bring your attention to our NHL Picks Contest game between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders featuring a $100 prize for the winner. As a fan of the East and a big fan of these epic rivalries between neighboring cities, I am hoping we can get a little more participation. I thought I’d feature the contest game a little bit early today since I don’t have any forum plays here and we’ll probably start focusing on the NFL playoffs tomorrow.
The New York Rangers have been in a slide for a long time and I find this game very interesting. In a vacuum or in a playoff series where both teams were playing up to their potential, I would take the New York Rangers every time. I love this defense and I think this goaltender, except when it comes to winning a Stanley Cup, is the best in hockey. The offense has a lot of speed and weapons. I think the New York Rangers are a great team.
That said, the snipers and speed of the New York Rangers have left the offense with an inability to possess the puck, leaving the team as a defensive liability despite top talent. Things have leveled off a bit lately, but New York is in a skid compared to where they were and where we thought they might be.
The New York Islanders had some difficulty after losing their top goalie, but overall they are performing as expecting. They have one of the best young forwards in hockey and a solid rebuilt defense that returned from last season. Goaltending is now a strength. Ultimately, the Islanders don’t have many holes.
So, the better team is on the road and not playing great hockey. The “little brother” to the Original Six Rangers is at home in what is almost a coin-flip line with a lot to prove. Islanders Rangers is a great rivalry game.
