Group C and D of the FIFA World Cup kickoff their second matches in the group stage this week. The matches will take place on Thursday, June 21. A win could send one lucky team into the round of 16. While a loss may seal the fate of an unlucky nation and send the team home.

Group C: Denmark vs. Australia
Denmark was incredibly lucky to beat Peru in their first match. The Danes were under pressure throughout the match and some timely defending got them over the line. Denmark was fortunate that Peru missed a first-half penalty before striker Yussuf Poulsen scored in the second stanza.
Australia was unlucky not to get a point against France in its first game. The Aussies will have their backs against the wall. A loss will surely mean the team is headed home. Denmark has the better team, but Australia will fight until the end.
Winner: Denmark
Group C: France vs. Peru
France didn’t play well in its first match. The team couldn’t get into gear against the Aussies but still won the match 2-1. Peru will have a lot to prove after coming up just short in game one.
France should be far better against the Peruvians. Striker Antoine Griezmann was France’s bright spot and he will again be the catalyst for the team’s attack. The French need to be careful as Peru could catch them on the counter. Peru won’t get much possession in this game as France will have a majority of the ball.
A France win would send the team into the next round. If both France and Denmark win they will be level on points with one group match to go. The two nations will play in their final Group C match and it could have major implications on the round of 16.

Group D: Argentina vs. Croatia
Argentina versus Croatia will be the match of the day on Thursday. The Argentines struggled in their opening match, drawing 1-1 with World Cup first-timers Iceland. The match saw Lionel Messi once again having the chance to save Argentina, but unable to do so. The forward missed a second-half penalty that would have won the game for Argentina.
Croatia was impressive against Nigeria, 2-0. The Croatians have a golden generation of players in the squad. Croatia is just as talented as Argentina despite lacking some of the South Americans’ household names.
Winner: Croatia***
Although ZCode System’s scores predictor has selected Argentina as the winners, the result is hard to agree with. Croatia is a very good team and Argentina continues to underachieve.
