MLB World Series: Are the Indians still favorites to win it all?

There is just one week to go in the Major League Baseball regular season and the MLB playoffs begin on October 3rd.  It’s just about time for the postseason to start and a made dash for the World Series trophy.

A few weeks ago, we wrote about the Cleveland Indians and why bettors should wager on the Tribe to win the World Series. This time, let’s look at the MLB playoffs and see if the Indians are still a team that, should not only be bet on, but is being undervalued by bookies.

In this American League East battle, the Yankees are trying to secure a spot in the post season and an outside shot at the division, while the Blue Jays look to play spoiler. Examining the two teams, the Yankees hold the edge +4 to -3.32 in terms of the MLB Team Strength Oscillator. Similarly, the Yankees have a +21 to +14 advantage in the Power Ranking Indicator. Neither team cracks the top ten in Team Volatility, making the favorite/underdog status less important in predicting the outcome of this series.

The Cleveland Indians have the best win record in the American League (as of this writing) and have reeled off an unbelievable 19 straight wins. The Tribe has 18 games left this season, and projections have the baseball team winning 100 games, second most behind the Los Angeles Dodgers’ projected 103 wins.

ZCode System’s power rankings has Cleveland as the best team in baseball. The Dodgers have fallen to ninth as the team looks unlikely of stopping its slide.

The Yankees are second in the American League East, while the Rangers are third in the American League West. Looking at the overall trend and current power of the two teams, I see the Yankees hold a big +25 to +14 edge in the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Rangers hold a slim +4.28 to +2.34 advantage in terms of the MLB Strength Oscillator.
