Betting SUPERBOWL 51: Falcons vs. Patriots

Here is Z-Code’s early prediction for this year’s superbowl winner.

Falcons vs. Patriots

This is giong to be an epic game to watch. The Patriots have been the AFC favorite since week 1 and have played accordingly. The Falcons, a team that missed the playoffs for the last 3 years in a row, have finally come into their own under Dan Quinn. This will be one of the better super bowl games in recent history. Here’s why.

The Falcons are best suited to take down the New England Patriots. The Patriots have talented weapons but they’ve been able to win in January because of coaching. Bill Belichick has a way of disrupting opposing teams and creating perfect strategies to win. His signature move is to shut down the opposing team’s most potent weapon. Last week he had Antonio Brown double covered and was able to hold him to just 77 yards and no touchdowns. With LeVeon Bell having to leave the game because of injury, the Steelers were forced to look to its less experienced and talented players to carry the team. Had Bell not been injured, I think it would have been much more of a game, but with him out and Brown shut down the Steelers were essentially out of weapons. Here’s why this strategy isn’t going to work next weekend against the Falcons. The Falcons have TOO many weapons to shut down. Sure, Julio Jones is possibly the best receiver in the league and is a key playmaker in the Falcons offense. But, if you shut him down there are literally 12 other guys ready to step up and handle the work. Matt Ryan has thrown a TD to an NFL record 13 different receivers this year. Both Sanu and Gabriel are competent receivers not to mention the fact that the Falcons have the best duo of running backs in the league with Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman. My point is that the Falcons are a team who can adapt. Their offense is too potent and too diverse to fall apart becuase of clever coaching from the defense.

With that said, both teams have offenses that are capable of putting up huge numbers. It’s going to be the defense that wins the game here. That’s why were betting on Dan Quinn’s defense that had 2 turnovers against a Packers team that rarely made mistakes.

The line is currently Patriots -3. Vegas has consistently had the Patriots as favorites by a touchdown or more in each of their superbowl appearances. Furthermore, the public money is pouring in early on New England- currently 69%. If there is one game a year you bet against the public, it should be the superbowl. Our early lean is towards Atlanta, but check back next week to read our article on prop bets and other fun wagers.
