NHL Picks Contest Round Six ($100 Prize): New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets 12/10

Two mediocre teams do battle in Columbus on Tuesday. Unimpressive as these two have been, I think it’s the most difficult game to predict in a full day of hockey.

The Devils are anchored in their excellent goaltending, but the offense has really struggled without Ilya Kovalchuk. They’re streaky, but right now they’re very cold.

Columbus nearly made the playoffs last season on the strength of their goaltending, but injuries have hurt them offensively. This should be a grind. I don’t see where the goals will come from.

This might be my favorite rivalry in hockey. Even though the Devils are exhausted and slumping, I expect a battle.

I don’t think the New York Rangers are that good. They’ve got one of the best defensive top pairings in hockey, and their goaltender, who just inked a massive contract, is definitely one of the best in hockey. I like the Houston Texans lately. They’ve been playing inspired under their hometown hero quarterback, but find a way to lose each week. As such, it’s hard to trust them with big money – especially on the road in a short week.

I was a little disappointed this round, folks. Not only did we have one of our worst predictive performances of the year, but we also didn’t have much of a turnout. It’s certainly anyone’s game – as evidenced by the fact that nobody really moved around much in the standings this round. WE ONLY HAD SEVEN CORRECT GUESSES IN ROUND FIVE and our leaders failed to pad their leads.

The Anaheim Ducks blew it late, but they really didn’t deserve that one either. It was certainly an exciting game.

The LA Kings are an excellent defensive team, but they’ve struggled offensively and remain maddeningly inconsistent. They can steal a win from anyone, but they can also lose to just about anyone as well. Without Quick, they’re a tough team to trust.

In our contest pick, the Kings play the second game in a back to back against a slumping Ducks team. Things simply haven’t clicked for Anaheim in the last few weeks, and most of it has been on the offensive end.

The New Orleans Saints offense is a well-oiled machine right now. Drew Brees is spreading the ball around, he’s protected, they’re balanced. The New York Giants have truly turned their season around. They face a Washington Redskins team that a few weeks ago many would have considered an obviously superior team. NHL Picks 11/30: Buffalo Sabres at New Jersey Devils

Epic explosion down the stretch and the Devils came through in a game they had to have and a game we had them winning. Now you look at this line and you have to wonder.

First of all, I doubt z-code has this one right. Schneider went last night and with both goalies performing fairly well right now I highly doubt they run him out for two in a row. Then again, Schneider looked great and might be in line for two in a row if Deboer is feeling aggressive. I don’t think goaltending plays into this one though… not  ...

The LA Kings have one of the league’s best and most consistent defenses, anchored by one of the best goalies in hockey. When they’re on, the Ducks have one of the most explosive offenses in hockey. They don’t allow goals too easily either. This is a battle between two elite NHL teams in the west.

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all. It’s a great American tradition of turkey, family, and FOOTBALL. We’ve got three games, and as a holiday treat I’m going to give you guys all my plays AND the Z-Code prediction for each game.

My biggest play tomorrow is a three-team, seven-point teaser on all three games. The lines have moved sharply, and I like the Dallas Cowboys -1/2, the Detroit Lions PK, and the Baltimore Ravens +4.5 paying out +150. Should be fun.

Individually, I’m on all three home teams as well.

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Fourth Round Standings Update

Happy Thanksgiving, hockey fans. In a tight fourth round of our NHL Picks $100 Contest, we saw our only undefeated member fall. The competition got a whole lot tighter, as most of our contestants are a game back, and the whole pool has a chance to win this thing.

The Anaheim Ducks had control and a 2-1 lead in the third period when the home team erupted to steal this one. Quick, consecutive goals gave the Stars the lead, and the Ducks never recovered. It was a wild one in Dallas. Here are our results:
