NFL Predictions 2013: Can Dallas Cowboys Win the NFC East?

NFL Picks and Predictions: NFC East 2013

Football is back so it seems appropriate to roll out some divisional predictions for this season. Let’s start with my favorite division – the NFC East.

This is the tightest division in football; not just according to Vegas lines, but also because this division comes down to week 17 every year. Can you put your faith in the Dallas Cowboys, who never seem to close? How about the Washington Redskins, who have injury questions and have to answer for a “fluke” season”? The Eagles have a new system, and the Giants are consistently mediocre — can either of them steal this division?

Vegas has the Dallas Cowboys as the favorites here, and I agree. I think they steal the division and finally make it back to the playoffs – if DeMarco Murray stays healthy.

1. Dallas Cowboys 10-6: The Cowboys are one of the most talented teams at the skill positions in football. Dez Bryant emerged as a go-to WR, Jason Witten is one of football’s most consistent TE’s, and DeMarco Murray can be a dominant running back. The questions on this team beyond Tony Romo’s consistency, to me, are the line, Murray’s health, and a new defense. If they stay healthy, however, I think this is the team to beat.

2. New York Giants 9-7: The Giants lost their top running back and may lack balance this year offensively. Injuries hurt them last year, and their defense was mediocre. They’ve got a great coach, I just question if that’s enough to sneak into the postseason again.

3. Washington Redskins 9-7: Questions about RGIII’s health will be the headline for the Skins this year. If he starts the year, he may have rushed back. He has the heart of a warrior, but his selfishness led to the Skins’ demise last year. This is a dangerous team and a good team, but when built around one semi-hobbled player, do you trust them? I don’t.

4. Philadelphia Eagles 5-11: This college speed system may not work in the NFL. Philly’s QB is a turnover machine, the defense is porous, and there will be some adjustments to Chip Kelly this year. All in all, I think Philly is far from contending for the playoffs this year.
