The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals will kick off on Friday. Eight teams are left in the tournament.

  • England +225
  • Spain +350

Is there a dark horse in the Women’s World Cup?

The Netherlands are flying under the radar ahead of the quarterfinals. The Dutch are not getting any love from bookmakers and could spring a shock on Spain.

The Netherlands finished second in the 2019 edition of the World Cup. Two years before reaching the final, the Dutch won the UEFA European Championship. Coach Andries Jonker has the team playing well and midfielder Jill Roord is second in the top scorer charts, with four goals.

Spain have played well in the World Cup. But their wins came against some of the weaker teams in the tournament. Spain were played off the pitch against Japan in the group stage, losing 4-0. The Spanish may struggle once more playing against a top-tier team.

Are England the real deal?

England aren’t playing their best soccer. The Lionesses eked into the quarterfinals with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Nigeria. England were fortunate not to have given away a penalty in the second half thanks to a silly challenge by defender Lucy Bronze.

England also had to overcome having Lauren James sent off. They played with 10 women for much of the match. James has been England’s breakout star at the World Cup. Her absence in the quarterfinals will be felt but England have enough quality to win without her. James will miss both the quarterfinal and semifinal matches – if England reach the final four – due to her red card against Nigeria.

England scored six goals against China in the group stage but have struggled to score in the other matches. They tallied just two goals in the other three fixtures.

Colombia have played well in the tournament. England should find away to win the match and progress to the semifinals.

2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup top scorer

Japan’s Hinata Miyazawa leads the tournament in goals, with five. The Japanese midfielder has been excellent and will have at least one more match to add to her goal total. Miyazawa is an unexpected candidate to win the top scorer award.

Here are the odds on the Women’s World Cup top scorer

  • Hinata Miyazawa +163
  • Kadidiatou Diani +300
  • Jenni Hermoso +900
  • Engenie Le Sommer +1000
  • Jill Roord +1400
  • Alba Redondo +1400
