2021-22 College Football Playoff Semifinals

The 2021-22 College Football Playoff semifinals are set with the NCAA’s top football programs ready to battle it out for the biggest prize in college gridiron.

Both College Football Playoff semifinals will be played on New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31. The semifinal games will feature:

While the month of December has already given us a number of great college bowl games, none of them can compare in scope to the 2021-22 College Football playoff semifinals.

Alabama is the heavy favorite in Friday’s first College Football Playoff semifinal. The Cincinnati Bearcats are appearing in their first-ever playoffs and are massive underdogs compared to Nick Saban’s elite ‘Bama program.

It is claimed by insiders and fans alike that Alabama and Georgia are destined to meet in the National Championship Game and the semifinals are just a routine fixture that both teams must navigate.

Cincinnati shouldn’t be underestimated, however. This is the only unbeaten team in the semifinals. Sure, they play in the American Athletic Conference and their biggest wins came against Notre Dame and Houston; but destine could be on the Bearcats’ side.

Still, Alabama is Alabama. The Tide thrashed Georgia in the SEC Championship Game 41-24. Alabama should ease to a win over Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl. The game should get away from the Bearcats early with them attempting to claw back in the second half but coming up short.

Michigan Wolverines (+245) vs. Georgia Bulldogs (-305) — Orange Bowl

Until losing the SEC Championship Game to Alabama, Georgia had one of the best college football seasons of all time. The Bulldogs were 12-0 heading into the SEC Championship Game where they were caught up by the Crimson Tide.

Michigan Wolverines did the near-impossible this season, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes. Coach Jim Harbaugh had failed to defeat Ohio State in five previous attempts. Michigan also won the Big 10 Championship Game against the Iowa Hawkeyes to book the team’s place in the College Football Playoffs.

On paper, this is a far more evenly matched game than the other semifinal. The Wolverines are on a five-game winning streak while Georgia are coming off of a 41-24 SEC title game loss to Alabama.

Although Michigan is on a good run of form, Georgia is a wounded animal heading into the semifinals. The Bulldogs should rebound from their loss to Alabama versus the Wolverines. The Orange Bowl should be slightly closer than the Cotton Bowl with Georgia edging Michigan on the way to the National Championship Game.
