NHL 2017-18: The puck is about to drop on opening night

The NHL 2017-18 season is about to begin, and the Pittsburgh Penguins are expected by many sportsbooks to win their third consecutive Stanley Cup. Predicting the team will win and it actually happening isn’t always what occurs. However, the Penguins have a legitimate shot of pulling off the feat.

Wednesday night October 4th sees the puck drop. Four games will take place on opening night, and the defending champions are one of the clubs taking the ice.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Winnipeg Jets The Jets have plenty of expectations on their shoulders this season. The team may be at +4000 odds  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks: Caps Flyers Game Six

NHL Picks: Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers Game 6 The Philadelphia Flyers changed goalies, and it has given them a bit of a boost. The Flyers still aren’t scoring, but they’ve started to shut down the best offense in the conference. Here, however, after two big wins, I expect the Flyers to fall to the Washington Capitals at last. We continue our progression wager here, and we bet Washington to cover the last two losses.

It’s so difficult to beat the same team three and four times in a row. It is especially difficult when that team is the best  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks: Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers

NHL Playoffs Picks: Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers I think the Philadelphia Flyers have completely imploded. It’s fun watching people try to defend these fans, but they are irrational and violent. Philly is a great city and a fun sports town, but Philadelphia fans are the absolute worst. Whether it’s the Eagles or the Flyers, the people are just ridiculous. As such, isn’t it fun to watch the best team in the East, the Washington Capitals, beat the snot out of them every night? I mean if you can’t have enough dignity when honoring your dead owner to not throw things  ...

Free NHL Picks Contest: Philadelphia Flyers at Florida Panthers

NHL Picks Contest: Philadelphia Flyers at Florida Panthers

Saturday, March 12th

Well, I’ve got a two game lead so I took to the public to let you guys choose the game that I would beat you all with. After three submissions, I picked the game that was the furthest out to let everyone have a chance to put their picks in. The result is the Philadelphia Flyers at the Florida Panthers being what I hope will be the decisive selection.

The Florida Panthers have been slumping lately and are staggering down the stretch, while the Philadelphia Flyers find  ...

Free NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Flyers Hurricanes

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Philadelphia Flyers at Carolina Hurricanes

Tuesday, February 23rd In what I thought was a total toss up in Detroit ended up with quite a slanted contest pool, as most of you were on the Boston Bruins when they fell to the Detroit Red Wings in a thrilling 6-5 game. The home team, again, prevailed and the leaderboard shook up a little more. Here, in a battle of two desperate teams just outside the playoff race, I expect another exciting battle.

The Philadelphia Flyers are notoriously tough and a little dirty. They’re also known for being  ...

2015-16 NHL Preseason Predictions – Metropolitan Preview: New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Preseason Predictions: New York Rangers Take 2015-16 Metropolitan Division

As a New Jersey Devils fan, it’s hard to admit that the New York Rangers are the best team in the Metropolitan Division. It’s even harder to pick them to win your division two years in a row in annual preseason NHL predictions. This year, the blow was softened by being right last year. Here’s to another incredibly profitable hockey season, starting with a preview of my favorite division where I begrudgingly pick a team with one Stanley Cup since 1940.

1. New York Rangers (108 pts): I know the  ...

NHL Picks: St. Louis Blues at Philadelphia Flyers

NHL Picks: St. Louis Blues at Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are a tough team to bet against at home. They’ve been on a decent streak at home, beating tough teams like the surging Caps on home ice. This is a different team in Philly, but it’s still not a great team.

For me, the Western Conference is vastly superior and the line is just too juicy. I know this is a trap because a quick glance at these teams’ respective records leave us expecting a St. Louis Blues win for sure. That said, there’s value in this trap and  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Standings Update, Blue Jackets Flyers

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Standings Update, Flyers Blue Jackets

Only three of our contestants got our contest game right, so the standings look pretty similar. Duane has jumped into a five-win tie with Robert and Mike, while Lee jumped into striking range at four wins. It’s still anyone’s game, and your continued participation keeps our contests going. First to ten wins takes the whole thing, but we’ve seen leaders stumble and the door is wide open.  Simply follow along on our Facebook page to participate.

NHL Picks Contest: Columbus Blue Jackets vs Philadelphia Flyers

NHL Picks Contest: Columbus Blue Jackets at Philadelphia Flyers

Tuesday, February 17th

What happened to the Columbus Blue Jackets? Last time I looked up they had their goalie of the future, a great core of young skaters, and all the momentum in the world after last season. And for that matter – what happened to the Philadelphia Flyers? Mason was serviceable last season and the top-line scoring they built the roster around has evaporated a little. That said, Philly is hot right now and difficult to beat at home. Still, they’ve been pretty streaky this season and the momentum they have today might be gone by next week… either way – who ya got?

As always, to participate, simply comment on this post pinned to the top of our Facebook page. First to ten wins, and after a small hiatus (SORRY), it’s still anyone’s game!
