NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Devils Caps Kick Off Free Facebook Competition

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils Saturday, December 6thWe’re proud to announce another FREE Facebook picks competition with $100 prize for first place. The first person to correctly guess ten winners in our contest picks will take home $100 cash, just for participating and being one of our Facebook friends. Z-Code does these fairly often, and your continued participation and the fun we have following along is what keeps them going. Congratulations to Pat O’Rielley and all our competitors in the NFL/MLB picks contest that just finished up. Now let’s see what we can do with hockey!

My Devils are off to a slow start. They’re flirting with .500, but the team looks slow and the goaltending looks fatigued. Maybe we shouldn’t have been so fast to cast Marty aside. That said, the Caps aren’t doing much better. In a battle of playoff-hopeful, mediocre teams in the East, who do you have winning this one in  ...

2014 NHL Predictions: Rangers, Devils, Penguins in Metropolitan Division Preview

Football is going strong in week five, baseball is in the playoffs, and excitement is brewing for the best time of the sports calendar… that said, all I can think about is hockey. Here’s our first preview of the season… my personal favorite, the former Atlantic, the Metropolitan division.2014 NHL Predictions: Metropolitan Division Preview The Pittsburgh Penguins dumped one of their big three, the New York Rangers lost a ton of depth, the Philadelphia Flyers are again relying on Steve Mason to have career-best success, and my New Jersey Devils added a bunch of key pieces. Hell, even the New York Islanders have a goalie. It’s going to be a fun 2014 NHL season, so let’s get out divisional previews rolling with the Metropolitan division.

1. New York Rangers (101 points) – I think they’ve turned a corner in terms of sustainable success. They lost some cap hit players but nothing too important to their general scheme. They’ve got arguably the  ...

Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils Win Possible Last Start

Martin Brodeur and the Future of the New Jersey Devils

It doesn’t sound like Martin Brodeur is all that ready to hang up the skates. He did slip in his post-game interview and call Sunday’s matinee with the Bruins his last start, but he quickly backtracked to indecision. Unfortunately, it also doesn’t seem like the Devils really want him back. Marty is unlikely to happily accept a role as a backup, and it’s hard to imagine him platooning in New Jersey for another year. This might be goodbye for a number of reasons.

It would be weird to see Brodeur in another uniform, so the child in me is hoping for retirement or a 20-game role to stay in New Jersey and keep Cory Schneider fresh next season. Brodeur is arguably the greatest goaltender to ever play the game, and doing it all for one team makes it special. That said, he’s a stubborn man.

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils at Buffalo Sabres

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils at Buffalo Sabres

This is a heartbreak or hope game for me, so kindly ignore my various and blatant biases in evaluating this game. I think the Devils can make the playoffs. Here’s why:

1. The Columbus Blue Jackets are about to play three top teams. I think they could lose all three. They were sellers at the deadline and this is a deadly stretch in their schedule.

2. The Devils play the Caps later this week. Win and they leap both non-playoff teams to become the top threat to Columbus’ WC 2 spot.

NHL Pick Competition, Round 17: New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers

NHL Picks Contest, Round 17: New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers

The Devils are playing some of their best hockey of the year right now, amidst goalie controversy and Kovalchuk nonsense they’ve won three of the first four games out of the break. The Flyers are in position to make the playoffs after surging ahead of the pack, but there are a handful of teams hot on their tails. This is another huge game in a huge rivalry. Who ya got?

As always, simply comment on this post on our Facebook page to participate. Remember, first to ten wins gets 100 dollars, while second place gets $50!

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize) Standings Update: Devils Flyers

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize, $50 Runner up): Standings Update

My New Jersey Devils blew the lead in the third, and ultimately lost in overtime to the hated Philadelphia Flyers. A few of you were able to successfully predict the outcome of this challenging game. Congratulations!

Here are our updated standings going into the tenth round of the contest. Things are heating up, and there’s a lot of clutter at the top. Keep it up! Duane held onto his lead, but it’s still anybody’s game!

NHL Picks Contest: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

NHL Picks Contest Round Nine: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

As usual, we’ve picked a good one. The line is essentially a coin flip and the computer and I disagree. Tough game to predict.

For me this comes down to goaltending and defense. I think the Devils have the better goalie, I think neither team has much of a defense, and I think the Devils’ depth matches up well with the Flyers’ isolated scoring. At home, I think that’s all they’ll need to win this one.

The computer looks at how hot the Flyers are, but I feel like the  ...

NHL Picks Contest Round Nine ($100 Prize): Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

– Tuesday, January 7th

I don’t know that there’s a rivalry I enjoy more than Flyers Devils. This year, both teams are in a cluttered battle for the third playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Devils have played better of late and are home, but the Flyers are surging into relevance again.

Who ya got?

Here are our standings after eight rounds:

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils at Chicago Blackhawks

NHL Picks and Predictions – New Jersey Devils at Chicago Blackhawks 12/23

The New Jersey Devils might be in trouble here, but call me crazy I believe in this team.  They’ve scratched to .500 and if they can win one more game they can really enjoy the holiday.  The Blackhawks are keeping the door open, too.

Chicago is coming off a loss, so I expect them to be motivated here.  However, they’re going with a backup goalie and, although it’s early, 99% of the public money is on the Blackhawks.  Vegas isn’t in the business of giving money away, so  ...

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils Vs Ottawa Senators

NHL Picks and Predictions: Ottawa Senators at New Jersey Devils

Ottawa played a great game on Monday and they have looked sharp in just about every other contest this month haha. Their scoring is inconsistent, and I don’t think they’re going to finish the year in the hunt. Right now, they’re battling for .500

The Devils are playing well. They played a tight game with the Penguins that they should have won if not for a horrific first period. They played a tight game with the Blue jackets that they should have won if not for a horrific third period.  ...
