Premier League matchday 2 kicks off this weekend on September 19. The weekend will be headlined by a huge fixture between Chelsea and reigning league champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Sunday will see the Chelsea versus Liverpool match along with three addition fixtures. We will take a look at three matches for Sunday, September 20, and give you the picks for the games.
Chelsea vs. Liverpool
Liverpool won both Premier League games against Chelsea in 2019-20. The Reds were brilliant posting a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge and a 5-3 victory at Anfield. The clubs will meet at Stamford Bridge in what could be a match-up of two teams that fight for the title this term.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has nine players on his injury list. The two most important are striker Timo Werner and midfielder Jorginho. Both are likely to be passed fit for the game from their respective injuries. If Werner plays, his pace will stretch Liverpool’s defence.
The Reds won on matchday 1, 4-3 versus Leeds United. The team’s defence made hard work of the win. Liverpool are unbeaten in four straight league games versus Chelsea. Expect a Liverpool win or draw when they meet on Sunday.
Result: Liverpool win or draw; over 2.5 goals scored
Leicester City vs. Burnley
Leicester City were brilliant on matchday 1, winning 3-0 versus West Brom. Striker Jamie Vardy scored twice for the Foxes. Burnley had matchday 1 off as opponent Manchester United got an extra week off due to their August Europa League commitments.
Leicester City are unbeaten in nine straight home matches versus Burnley in all competitions. That includes last season’s 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium versus Burnley.
Four of the last five games between Leicester City and Burnley finished with 2-1 scorelines. Leicester City have some defensive issues heading into the game. Last weekend, manager Brendan Rodgers had to shoehorn defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi into central defence. Rodgers may not have center-back Wes Morgan fit, keeping Ndidi at center-back.
Leicester City should claim a win versus Burnley on Premier League matchday 2. The Foxes are unbeaten in seven of their last 10 games versus Burnley.
Result: Leicester City win; Jamie Vardy to score anytime
Newcastle United vs. Brighton
There is something I really like about Newcastle United. They have had a good transfer market during the offseason. The work manager Steve Bruce did signing players helped on matchday 1. Newcastle United claimed a 2-0 win versus West Ham.
Brighton suffered a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea to kick off the season. Not only did Newcastle United post a 2-0 win on opening day, but they won in midweek in the Carabao Cup versus Blackburn Rovers, 1-0.
The Magpies’ recent record against Brighton hasn’t been great. They did claim two draws last season. Both games ended nil-nil. Newcastle United were impressive on matchday 1 and I fancy them picking up a second league win.
They could get a win to nil versus Brighton. The Magpies have posted back to back clean sheets against Brighton. I like them to do it once more.
Result: Newcastle United to win to nil
