NHL Predictions: October 26

As the near the end of October, the NHL season is well underway. Here are the match ups for Saturday, October 26. Note that all information is for games played through October 22.

Tampa Bay Lightning versus Vegas Golden Knights

Tampa Bay enters second in the Atlantic Division and have a +10 point differential, while the Golden Knights are fifth in the Pacific Division and -3 point differential. The Lightning hold a slim +15 to +14 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, however Vegas is “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are among the most stable in the league according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Vegas has found it’s stride and should edge the Lightning at home.

Winnipeg Jets versus Detroit Red Wings

Winnipeg is third in the Central Division and has a +5 point differential. The Red Wings are last in the Atlantic Division and have been outscored by 19. The Jets have a huge +22 to +1 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “dead up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are among the most stable in the league and given the Jets are road favorites, is more indication that they will win. This game likely wont be close.

San Jose Sharks versus Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina is tops in the Metropolitan Division, while the Sharks are fourth in the Pacific Division. Carolina has a small edge of +15 to +13 on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are hovering in the “average” range on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Senators are among the most unstable teams in the early going, so it’s wise not to pay too much attention to their favorite/underdog status. Both teams are nearly even in goals scored an allowed, another indication that this will be a tight game.  Look for Carolina to sneak out a win, perhaps needing overtime to do so.

Ottawa Senators versus Colorado Avalanche

Colorado is second in the Central Division and +13 point differential, while the Senators are sixth in the Atlantic Division and +3 point differential. Colorado has a decided +29 to +18 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are “burning hot”, winners of their last three. Ottawa is the third most unstable team in the league, so they could pull off a road upset, however Colorado is generally very strong at home, so give the advantage to the Avalanche in this one.
