NHL Predictions March 8: Will the Capitals stay hot?

The NHL regular season is winding down with still many questions concerning playoff seeding. Will the Capitals remain hot and take down the Devils? Four games are on tap and note that all information is for games played through March 5.

New Jersey Devils versus Washington Capitals

New Jersey heads to Washington with an 8-21-3 record on the road. They are +4 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  On the flip side, the Capitals are “burning hot”, +27 on the Power Ranking Indicator and 19-9-5 at home. Neither team are among the most stable in the league, trending above average on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Despite the big difference in records, the teams have split the two meetings this season. Be hesitant betting the over/under as the Devils and Capitals trending on the Totals Predictor cancel each other. As for the game itself, the Capitals should win this one easily.

Minnesota Wild versus Florida Panthers

Minnesota has a very solid 18-14-2 record on the road, while the Panthers are 16-12-6 at home. Minnesota holds a +14 to +8 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Wild are one of the most unstable teams in the league, at -7 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Avoid their favorite/underdog status when considering a bet on this one. Minnesota is clearly trending better at the moment and despite being on the road, should win this one. It may take overtime to do so.

Winnipeg Jets versus Carolina Hurricanes

Winnipeg enters with a 17-15 road record against a Carolina team that is “burning hot” and 18-10-4 at home. The teams are nearly identical on the Power Ranking Indicator at +24 to +23 in favor of the Jets. If betting the over/under, the slight trend overall combining the teams is for the over. Both teams are chowing moderate stability on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Jets won the first meeting between the teams this season, but look for the Hurricanes to even the score. They should win by two goals.

Montreal Canadiens versus Anaheim Ducks

Montreal holds a +23 to +2 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, although neither team is trending well at the moment, at “average down” versus “dead up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Montreal is 16-13-3 on the road and Anaheim is 13-11-8 at home. the Canadiens won the first meeting between the teams this season. Both teams are playing games that are trending “under” according to the Totals Predictor. Best bet in this one is to go with the Canadiens and the “under”.
