With the NHL All-Star break later this week, there are a few good games on tap for January 25. Can Nashville take down Vegas to keep pace in the Central Division? That is the featured game for January 25. Note that all information is for games played through January 20.
Washington Capitals versus Toronto Maple Leafs
Washington enters play third in the Metropolitan Division and are on a five-game losing streak. They are +20 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Toronto is just 3-7 over their last ten and second in the Atlantic Division. They are +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold down” status. They defeated the Capitals in the first meeting as a road underdog. Both teams are relatively stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Washington has a better road record than Toronto’s home record. In a game that should be tight and decided late, look for Washington to end their losing streak in an upset.
Minnesota Wild versus Colorado Avalanche
This Central Division battle features the 3rd place Avalanche hosting the 5th place Wild. The teams have split the first two meetings this season. Minnesota is 6-4 over their last ten, +5 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Colorado won their last game, but are just 3-5-2 over their last ten. They sit at +13 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold up” status. Neither team are extremely stable, so use caution when examining favorite/underdog status. Colorado is 10-6-5 at home, while Minnesota is a game below .500 on the road. Look for the Avalanche to go one up in the season series with a win in this one.
Nashville Predators versus Vegas Golden Knights
In the top game of the day, Nashville comes in second in the Central Division, while Vegas is third in the Pacific Division. The Golden Knights are 16-4-3 at home and have won eight of their last ten games. Nashville has lost two straight but still have a narrow +24 to +22 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Because of their recent trend, the Predators are “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus “average up” for Vegas. Nashville won the first meeting by a 4-1 score as the home favorite. In this game, Vegas will be the favorite and are extremely stable, at +21 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. This means they perform consistently with their favorite/underdog status. That trend will continue and the Golden Knights will win and move closer to the top of the Pacific Division.
St. Louis Blues versus Anaheim Ducks
The Blues head to Anaheim playing better lately, winners of six of their last ten games. They enter sixth in the Central Division, while the Ducks are 2-5-3 over their last ten and fifth in the Pacific Division. Anaheim has a +19 to +11 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Blues have “average up” status versus “ice cold down” status on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Ducks won the first meeting by a 3-2 score as a road underdog. Note that St. Louis is very unstable, at -7 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Therefore, take heed when looking at their favorite/underdog status. St.Louis is above .500 at home and could pull off an upset. However, I lean towards Anaheim in a game that could be decided in overtime.
