NHL Picks: LA Kings at Arizona Coyotes
The NHL seems like a foreign place right now. In fact, the only constant seems to be that we’re off to another great start to the hockey season. Martin Brodeur makes his first start with the St. Louis Blues, the Buffalo Sabres are on a three-game winning streak even though Ryan Miller is a Canuck… and the Phoenix Coyotes adopted their state name to try to fill a desert ice oasis with fans that will presumably be more tied to the team across the state… I guess?
Either way, this is a fun rivalry. The games in Phoenix, or Glendale, or wherever the Arizona Coyotes play, are always pretty competitive. Both teams are anchored in defense and goaltending, which leads to tense games – especially in the playoffs.
I don’t really know what version of either team will show up. Both have been sloppy lately, with the coyotes playing particularly bad hockey and giving up a lot of goals – 14 in their last four. Thats not coyotes hockey, which leads me to lean to the LA Kings in this one.
The Kings are the better team and coming off a good win against Boston, a few close losses, and a blowout in minnesota where the Wild just didnt show up. Still, these games make me think they’re playing better hockey, while the Coyotes are tending the other way.
We temper our wager due to the familiarity of the teams, the better team being on the road as a favorite, and the volatility of the West overall. Still, a small bet on the Kings is my play today.
