NHL Picks and Predictions: Toronto Maple Leafs at Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Featured Hockey Game, Wednesday, January 23 – Toronto Maple Leafs at Pittsburgh Penguins

I don’t usually fall in love with -200 lines, but today is a beauty.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the best team in hockey right now. They have three of the best forwards in the NHL in James Neal, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin. They have a talented goalie in Marc-Andre Fleury. The Penguins are coached well, consistent, and perennial contenders. They’re hot to start the year and there’s a little bit of value even in this ugly line.

The Leafs goaltending has been in shambles since James Reimer’s concussion a year ago. They give up lots of goals and I can’t wait to see what the Penguins can do to this mediocre defense and poor goalie.

With that said, Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul can keep the Leafs in a game. If they turn this into a high-scoring affair there’s hope the Leafs can stay in this game going goal for goal on an off night from the Pens.

Still, I don’t see that happening. Z-Code is all over this one and so am I.
