AFC East 2015 Preseason Predictions: New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills
Few things are as certain season to season as the AFC East. This year, even with all the shaking up of the rosters, even with Tom Brady out for a well-deserved, four-game suspension, and even with the Buffalo Bills making all kind of moves, I still can’t bring myself to bet against the Pats.
1. New England Patriots (10-6): So, even if they come out “flat” you can sprinkle in a few losses with Tom Brady on the bench and maybe a little bit of adjustment once he comes back in, and I still think the New England Patriots are the best team in the AFC East this year. The Jets still don’t have a quarterback, the Bills are learning to win, and the Patriots will win the division – even if they don’t cruise to the title like in years past.
2. Buffalo Bills (9 – 7): I like the defense, I like the running game, but the modern NFL is about throwing the football. The Bills have gotten a lot better, but until they have a reliable quarterback I don’t think they can unseat the Pats at the top of this division.
3. Miami Dolphins (8-8): Miami is as consistently mediocre as they come these days. While nothing really stands out about them this year, it’s also hard to count them out completely. They’re a consistent defense with a solid home field edge, but I don’t think they’re going to be a playoff contender.
4. New York Jets (7-9): The best thing that could have happened to this team in the offseason is Geno Smith getting hurt (in hilarious fashion, no less). First, it settles the quarterback controversy they’ve had since Vinny Testaverde. Second, the better quarterback is now the unquestioned starter. Let’s see if the Jets can win without that Rex Ryan defense.
