NFL Picks: Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants
I am very high on the Atlanta Falcons this year. I think they will win the division and cruise to a playoff spot. I think the New York Giants will struggle this season. I do not like their defense and the pass rush looks like everyone is missing a finger. For me, there is a big gap between these two teams.
The New York Giants were handed a week one victory by the Cowboys, and did everything in their power to give it back. The Giants blew a huge lead with bad time management and boneheaded plays. I do not expect the Giants to recover. I think you can almost feel the season slipping away.
I was very impressed with the way the Atlanta Falcons opened the season. The passing game looks dominant and the running game appears to be serviceable with a new platoon in action. The defense brought tenacity and energy that caught the Philadelphia Eagles by surprise. Although they wilted down the stretch, they fought off a comeback effort to hold on to an incredible win on the road.
I don’t expect the Giants to move the ball like the Eagles did in the second half. I think the Giants offense looks beatable. The offensive line isn’t protecting Eli Manning, and double teams can control the one receiving threat in New York. I expect the Falcons to move the ball. The Giants secondary is improved, but nobody can shut down the Falcons wide receivers. Ball possession and consistency will be the key to the Falcons taking another road win.
The computer agrees, giving five-star value to the spread and a strong chance of winning the game outright. I am buying the spread up to 3 and 3.5, while also taking the money line in my big play of the day. I know the Falcons are on the road again, but I think they will be the vastly superior team here.
