NFL Conference Championships Picks: AFC/NFC Championship Games

The NFL Conference Championships round kicks off on Sunday with four teams remaining. Only two can progress to Super Bowl LIV as the stakes are high for all participants.

The AFC sees a remarkable Tennessee Titans, who upset the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens in the two previous rounds, head to Arrowhead Stadium to play the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs had a miraculous comeback against the Houston Texans on Sunday coming from 21 points down to win 51-31.

On the NFC side, it is a titanic battle between the No. 2 seed Green Bay Packers and the No. 1 ranked San Francisco 49ers. The Packers held on to beat the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday despite a late scare. Meanwhile, the 49ers outclassed the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.

With the Conference Championships set, let’s look at our picks this week.

Tennessee Titans vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes shined for the Chiefs on Sunday against the Texans. The Kansas City quarterback threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns. Mahomes now has his second crack at winning the AFC Championship Game, which the Chiefs should do, right?

Tap the brakes because Tennessee has been the upset kings this postseason. Wins over the Patriots and Ravens have Tennessee and its fans believing a Super Bowl LIV berth is possible.

Both teams are burning red hot and go into the game in brilliant form. Tennessee defeated Kansas City in the regular season in Nashville, 35-32. That win shows the Titans can beat the Chiefs. The only problem is, the Houston Texans defeated Kansas City during the regular season at Arrowhead and were beaten last weekend. The only difference here is, the Chiefs may not be able to come back from a three-touchdown hole if they find themselves there once more.

Kansas City should win and make the Super Bowl for the first time since 1969. That year, they won Super Bowl IV. The win came the season prior to the NFL-AFL merger.

Winner: Kansas City Chiefs

Point Spread forecast: +9 (85%) on TEN

Tennessee Titans TT: Under 21.50(73%)

Kansas City Chiefs TT: Under 30.50(67%)

Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers

While the AFC Championship Game will be wide open with the offenses, I expected this game to be very close. Defense may be what gets things done despite both teams having top-class quarterbacks.

Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t great against the Vikings in the Divisional round throwing for 131 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. It was San Francisco’s defense that rose to the occasion holding the Vikings to 10 points and giving up a mere 21 yards rushing.

Aaron Rodgers was good against the Seattle Seahawks throwing for two scores and 243 yards. Green Bay’s defense nearly gave up the lead, however, as Seattle outscored the Packers 20-7 in the second half. The Packers had 109 rushing yards on 30 total carries for 3.6 yards per run. San Francisco’s defense may eat up that running game and spit it out.

Green Bay went to San Francisco earlier this season and got walloped 37-8. While this game should be closer, the 49ers should prevail once more and move onto the Super Bowl.

Total: Over 45 (51%)

Green Bay Packers TT: Over 19.50(78%)

San Francisco 49ers TT: Under 26.50(57%)
