It is the greatest time of the year to be an NCAA football fan. It is bowl season and fans will be able to watch a new bowl game nearly every day. In total, there are 40 bowl games this season. The biggest will be played on January 7th in the National Championship Game.
Last Saturday, ZCode System’s blog successfully selected four out of five bowl games correctly. The Camellia Bowl result was our only miss and that was due to Eastern Michigan’s late failure to overcome Georgia Southern.
Today, we look ahead to four bowl games this weekend.
Birmingham Bowl: Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Memphis Tigers
Wake Forest goes into the Birmingham Bowl with a .500 record while Memphis registered an 8-5 mark. The Tigers may not have played the same type of talent this season but did collect a win over Central Florida. Wake Forest was the whipping boy of the ACC and limp into the bowl game thanks to their conference, high-profile name, and .500 record.
According to ZCode model, Memphis is a solid favorite with a 56% chance to beat Wake Forest.
Winner: Memphis Tigers
Armed Forces Bowl: Houston Cougars vs. Army Black Knights
Army has had a solid season with a 10-2 record. According to ZCode System, Army is ‘burning hot’. Army’s wins may not have been against major college foes, but they still won.
Houston posted an 8-4 record, which was very respectable in the American Conference. This game may not be as close as some bettors feel. Army has a lot to prove as an independent team. Army has a +7 stability going into the Armed Forces Bowl. The Black Knights will pick up the win by more than a touchdown.
Winner: Army
Dollar General Bowl: Buffalo Bulls vs. Troy Trojans
Both teams have had good seasons. Buffalo posted a 10-3 record and come from the MAC. Troy was 9-3 and represent the Sun Belt. It is safe to say, the two universities played very similar talent.
According to the bookies, Buffalo is the favorite in this game. But ZCode System’s prediction has Troy taking the ‘W’. The Troy moneyline has increased dramatically in the last few days. Is there an upset brewing in Alabama?
Winner: Troy
Hawaii Bowl: Louisana Tech Bulldogs vs. Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
The Hawaii Bowl kicks off on Saturday and of course, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will be a part of the game. This will be the Rainbow Warriors eighth time to play in the game since its creation in 2002. Of the seven previous Hawaii Bowl games, the Rainbow Warriors have won four times.
The 7-5 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will try to play spoilers as it is mostly a home game for Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors are the bookies’ favorite. Hawaii suffered a four-game midseason losing streak which makes it difficult to believe they can win the bowl game. Or does it?
These two teams met in 2009, 2010, and 2011 with Hawaii winning twice. Although ZCode System has picked Louisiana Tech to win, Hawaii is stronger going into the game.
Winner: Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
