NBA Finals Pick: Lebron James v Steph Curry, Cavs Warriors

NBA Finals Predictions: Lebron James, Steph Curry, Cavs Warriors

Through the years, my appreciation of Lebron James has been very widely publicized. I think he’s a rare breed of athlete and an excellent role model – a fact that rarely gets talked about, but he should get more credit for as one of the last players to go to the NBA straight out of high school. More importantly, however, he’s big, he’s fast, he plays exciting defense, and he has dragged poor teams kicking and screaming all the way to the cusp of NBA glory. This year, Lebron James has a decent supporting cast around him. As such, they coasted through the Eastern Conference and made it to the NBA Finals. It’s hard to tell if the East is still just that bad or if that’s an accomplishment all it’s own.

On the other side, if the Golden State Warriors don’t win a championship they will have as many playoff losses this year as they did in the entire regular season. The Warriors are four wins away from becoming the greatest team in NBA history, eclipsing Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. They cruised through the early rounds despite a Steph Curry injury, and while the Oklahoma City Thunder tested them (and had them on the brink of elimination for three games), the Warriors pulled through. Two of the best ten players in basketball, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, were playing the best basketball of their careers and it still wasn’t enough.

Kevin Love is soft and will be grinding against physical big men. LeBron James will be exhausted and his young coach has already shown a propensity to run him into the ground. Kyrie Irving is a great player, but he’s no Steph Curry and honestly he’s not even ClayThompson. This series comes down to whether JR Smith can keep hitting threes, Lebron James can carry the weaker team to victory, and Kevin Love can play like the “big three” player they thought they were getting. Even then it might not be enough.

In the end, the Golden State Warriors are just too good. I’ll be rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but if I had to pick who is going to win this one, I just can’t pull the trigger here. It looks like it’s going to be the Golden State Warriors again, but at least in this rematch the second best player on the floor for Cleveland isn’t Matthew Dellavedova.
