MLB Predictions May 24 – 26: Red Sox versus Astros highlight weekend match ups

As the MLB season is nearly two months complete, the divisional races and rivalries are heating up. There are several top of the line match ups featured this weekend, with the Red Sox and Astros topping the list. Let’s examine five of the showdowns for this weekend.

Boston Red Sox versus Houston Astros

The Boston Red Sox are third in the AL East and they take on the Houston Astros, first in the AL West. Both teams are “burning hot” with Boston going 7-3 over their last ten and the Astros, 9-1 during the same period. Houston holds a +28 to +16 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Astros are one of the most stable teams at +21 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Boston is playing games trending over according to the Totals Predictor, while the Astros are involved in games trending under. It’s best to avoid betting the “over/under” in this series. Chris Sale, David Price and Eduardo Rodriguez are scheduled to pitch for Boston. Wade Miley, Brad Peacock and Justin Verlander are scheduled for Houston. Price and Rodriguez are both quite profitable according to the Pitcher Profit Oscillator.  Houston will be the favorites coming in and playing at home should take two of three.

Atlanta Braves versus St. Louis Cardinals

The Braves are second in the NL East, looking up at the Phillies, while the Cardinals currently sit fourth in the NL Central. Atlanta is “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator, having won eight of their last ten games. They are +19 on the Power Ranking Indicator and relatively stable at +11. The Cardinals have lost seven of their last ten, are +14 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold down”. They are also one of the most unstable teams in the league at -5 on the Team Volatility Oscillator.  Both teams are trending under in their games, so “under” is a wise bet for the games in this series.  Of the six scheduled starters this weekend, Mike Soroka and Julio Teheran have been the best bets for Atlanta and Miles Mikolas, scheduled to start Friday, is the best bet for the Cardinals. Look for the Braves to take care of business on the road, winning two of three.

Tampa Bay Rays versus Cleveland Indians

The Rays have dropped to second in the AL East and the Indians are second in the AL Central. Both teams are 5-5 over their last ten games contributing to their “average down” and “average” status on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Rays have a +25 to +22 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. If considering betting the “over/under”, go with the “under” as both teams have been involved in low scoring games. Shane Bieber and Trevor Bauer for the Indians have been very solid bets according to the Pitcher Profit Oscillator, while Charlie Morton and Carlos Carrasco have not. The Indians have the edge at home and should come away with a series win, but don’t expect a sweep.

Philadelphia Phillies versus Milwaukee Brewers

The Philadelphia Phillies have won seven of their last ten and are first in the NL East. They are “burning hot” and +25 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Milwaukee is 5-5 over their last ten, “average up” and +22 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Best bet is for the under in this one as both teams have been trending that way according to the Totals Predictor. Jake Arrieta is the best bet on the mound for the Phillies against Chase Anderson on Saturday. Brandon Woodruff is the best bet for the Brewers on Sunday versus Zach Eflin. This series could go either way, the winner of the series likely will be the winner of Friday’s game. Expect a two games to one series with the winner a toss-up.

Seattle Mariners versus Oakland A’s

The Mariners enter have won just three of their last ten. They are +11 and “ice cold down”, last in the AL West. The A’s have gone 6-4 over their last ten, “burning hot” and +17 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Seattle is the more stable team, meaning they perform more consistently according to their favorite/underdog status. Wade LeBlanc is on the mound Friday for the Mariners and he is the best bet for the team this weekend at +413 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Mike Fiers is the best bet of any pitcher featured this weekend, going Saturday for the A’s at +1361 profit. The series should go to the A’s, winning two of three.
