Cleveland Cavaliers Win NBA Championship in Historic Game 7
Last night the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the record-breaking Golden State Warriors in game 7 of the NBA finals 93-89. Not only were the Warriors the best regular-season team in the history of professional basketball with a record 73 wins, but of their 9 regular-season losses, only 3 were home games. In this 7-game series, Cleveland managed to scoop 2 wins on the road. Furthermore, Cleveland managed to become the first team in NBA history to bounce back from a 3-1 deficit and win 3 games in a row to win the series. How did they do all of this? The answer is simple: Lebron James.
Lebron James takes a lot of flack for being overly hyped and in the wake of the Warriors epic season, fans are focusing more on the value of a team’s performance over individual players. While the Cavs as a whole really stepped up to the plate last night and performed, it was Lebron who lead the charge and refused to lose. Not only did he post a triple double with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, but he made multiple game-saving plays. In the last minutes of the game he ran the floor to chase down a breakaway and blocked a layup that would have tied the game. Moments later he was fouled on what would have been the dunk to end all dunks and made the game-sealing free throw after landing on his right elbow. The man was absolutely unstoppable. He played all but one minute of the game and did not sit out the entire second half. By the last minute of the game he was clearly exhausted but he simply refused to stop. He is a champion, he played like a champion and his historic performance lead his team to the victory he deserved.
I haven’t forgotten that I originally picked Golden State to win the series. I still think they should have, but Bogut being injured half-way through the series and Draymond Green being forced to sit out game 6 seriously hurt them. I think without those road-blocks the Warriors could have won without ever seeing a game 7. However, the circumstances being what they are, the glory of game 7 belongs solely to Lebron and all who watched last night’s game should feel lucky to have done so.
