This afternoon, the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics square off with the loser banished to the Wild Card game. It is a truly great day for baseball.
Both pitchers are hot, but Brandon Morrow is finishing the year on fire. He’s coming off a shutout effort and has an ERA of 2.65 over his last three starts. Though Scott Diamond is pitching well and coming off an excellent start, Morrow is pitching better.
The line is reasonable, the Blue Jays are in burning hot status, and there is a high difference in the power rankings.
The Minnesota Twins have lost four in a row, but in their last five games as underdogs they’ve covered the spread 80% of the time. Z Code analysis shows in possible sweep situations, games tend to be decided by one run. As such, there is value in the +1.5 line for the Twins with an 82% chance of a close game.
Z Code recommends a 3.5 star confidence pick on the Blue Jays moneyline, with 57% chance of a win despite the sweep situation. This is relatively dangerous, though. Sweep situations tend to be tight games and the end of the season is hard to predict since neither team has anything to play for. Additionally, public money is coming in on the Blue Jays. A small wager is appropriate here.
