NHL Predictions: November 10

*Note that any records are for games played through Tuesday, November 7.

Florida Panthers versus Buffalo Sabres

This match up features the teams with the worst records in the Atlantic Division. The teams split the four-game series last season. The Panthers are -14.05 and “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Sabres are -13.99 and “average”. Buffalo also holds a slight +6 to +1 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. While both teams are far from a sure bet, I go with the Sabres in a close game at home.

Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Lightning lead Stanley Cup futures odds

The 2017-18 NHL season is roughly four weeks old, and sportsbooks have recalculated the Stanley Cup futures odds. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning are now co-favourites in futures odds.

Bettors will recall that sportsbooks had the Pittsburgh Penguins listed as the Stanley Cup futures favourites at +800. However, Pittsburgh’s 8-5 start has cooled bookies on them. Toronto is also 8-5, but thanks to a fast start to the NHL season, sportsbooks have identified something they like Auston Matthews and company.

Stanley Cup futures: Toronto Maple Leafs +700 Toronto won seven of its first nine games.  ...

NHL Predictions: October 27

Colorado Avalanche versus Vegas Golden Knights

The Avalanche come into play winning the only prior meeting between the teams by the score of 4-2 on September 28. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator at +6.89, while the Golden Knights are -10.12 and “average down” status. The Power Ranking Indicator shows the Golden Knights with a +24 to +18 advantage. Vegas is 6-1 through Tuesday’s games, while the Avalanche are 5-4. Look for Vegas to hold home ice and win this one in a close battle.

Ottawa Senators versus New Jersey Devils

NHL Predictions: October 13-14

Washington Capitals versus New Jersey Devils

This match up is a battle against 2-0 teams. The Capitals lost to the Devils as a home favorite on September 27, but it’s their first regular season match up this season. The Capitals hold a -0.40 to -10.15 edge on the Team Strength Oscillator, but both have a “hot” status due to their quick starts. Washington also holds a +28 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and are second in Team Volatility. Look for the Capitals to take care of business on the road and narrowly edge the Devils.

NHL 2017-18: The puck is about to drop on opening night

The NHL 2017-18 season is about to begin, and the Pittsburgh Penguins are expected by many sportsbooks to win their third consecutive Stanley Cup. Predicting the team will win and it actually happening isn’t always what occurs. However, the Penguins have a legitimate shot of pulling off the feat.

Wednesday night October 4th sees the puck drop. Four games will take place on opening night, and the defending champions are one of the clubs taking the ice.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Winnipeg Jets The Jets have plenty of expectations on their shoulders this season. The team may be at +4000 odds  ...

NHL Stanley Cup Futures: Can Pittsburgh win a third straight cup?

The 2017-18 NHL regular season drops the puck on October 4th, and ice hockey fans are hungry for action after a summer of free agent moves. The Pittsburgh Penguins begin 2017-18 as the reigning two-time Stanley Cup champions, and sportsbooks believe the team can make it a third straight title winning season. However, the NHL has plenty of teams ready to upset Sidney Crosby and company as the league starts in just three weeks’ time.

NHL 2016 Power Rankings and Playoff Picks

NHL 2016 Power Rankings and Playoff Picks NHL west Edmonton Oilers The Oilers are a weak defensive team full of young talent that arguably didn’t live up to expectations in 2015. Can Connor McDavid, Jordan Eberle, Leon Draisaitl, Jesse Puljujarvi and Milan Lucic lead this team to the playoffs? Possibly. They’re certainly on the fringe. Vancouver Canucks The Canucks are a train wreck of mediocre goaltending and aging veterans without any solid prospects outside of Bo Horvat and Jake Virtanen. The team made weak offseason moves by trading Jared McCann, one of their few strong young players, for Erik Gudbranson and  ...

NHL 2016 Season Predictions: Eastern Conference

NHL 2016 Season Predictions: Eastern Conference Carolina Hurricanes Despite finishing 6th in the division in 2015, this team is possibly the worst in the NHL. Aside from Jordan Stall and Jeff Skinner, they have no impact players and their defense lacks experience. Look for them at the bottom of the standings all year. Buffalo Sabres The Sabres are progressing but doing so slowly. They are not a playoff contender this year. While they have  a solid mix of fresh young talent and seasoned veterans, the team will continue to grow. However, temper your expectations. Wait a year or two and  ...

2016 NHL Preview: The Western Conference

2016 NHL Season Preview: The Western Conference Vancouver Canucks The Canucks are a train wreck of mediocre goaltending and aging veterans without any solid prospects outside of Bo Horvat and Jake Virtanen. The team made weak offseason moves by trading Jared McCann, one of their few strong young players, for Erik Gudbranson and then paid way to much to acquire Loui Eriksson. This will surely be a disappointing season, and likely next few seasons, for fans in Vancouver. Arizona Coyotes This is a developing team with a ton of talented young players and a few solid veterans. However, the Coyotes  ...

NHL Playoffs and Stanley Cup Recap

The Pittsburg Penguins Won the Stanley Cup As I predicted, the Pens won the cup on Sunday night in 6 games and I wanted to briefly recap what that meant for all those following my predictions. Not only did I have the pens winning the series, I had them doing it in 6 games. In the NHL playoffs alone we won 9.31 units through solid progression betting (only one progression missed I believe). We closed the year out with two separate progressions on the Pens- one to open the series and another to close, as well as a win on  ...

Tonight’s big picks

NHL Before this series started, I suggested a bet on the Penguins to win it all. Pittsburg is now 3-1 and poised to make that dream come true. They have also given us an excellent opportunity to double down on our original bet. Therefore, I’m suggesting riding the penguins to the end in the form on an ABC progression. The way they’ve been playing this series, I don’t see any way they don’t close it out so the progression is ideal. A sharks comeback would absolutely defy all odds.

MLB Blue Jays vs. Orioles The line is steep for this  ...

2016 Stanley Cup: Pittsburgh Penguins Will Beat the San Jose Sharks

2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs Picks: Pittsburgh Penguins vs San Jose Sharks The Pittsburgh Penguins have all the momentum here. I had them making it through the East, and but for a disappointing first round loss I think we might have seen my full bracket come to fruition with the Anaheim Ducks. It’s been a whacky playoffs, but the forum is up nearly 1,000 dollars. We’re going to ride the Pittsburgh Penguins here as the hot team that we’ve trusted to get us this far. I really don’t like the San Jose Sharks.

NHL Playoffs Picks: Predators Sharks Game Seven

NHL Playoffs Picks: Nashville Predators at San Jose Sharks Game 7 I had the team that the Nashville Predators knocked out in the first round winning it all, but the Preds showed resilience and consistency in pulling off a win in Game Seven. Here, they face another Game Seven against what is by all accounts an inferior team to the one they just beat. My issue is whether the Nashville Predators have enough gas left in the tank to pull off another Game Seven victory on the road. Right now, I’ll say yes with limited confidence.

The Nashville Predators have  ...

MLB Picks: Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks

MLB Picks: Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks I know that the Arizona Diamondbacks have not gotten the pitching they expected when they acquired two top of the rotation pitchers in Shelby Miller and Zack Greinke. That said, those two guys form the back end of this ABC progression prediction because, eventually, at some point, at home, against a bad team, you’re going to have to be able to trust them if the Arizona Diamondbacks are going to compete this year.

I’ve still got the Diamondbacks winning the division. They can hit, the pitching will come around, and the NL West  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks: Second Round Bracket Predictions, Caps Penguins

NHL Playoffs: Round Two Predictions, Caps Penguins, Blues Stars Well, that was the worst first round we have ever had at Z-Code. We went 4-4 in the first round, but 10-0 on our progression wagers. We finished up 3.84 units overall after deciding not to hedge out of our +320 Ducks bet when they were up 3 games to 2. I guess we got greedy. I had the Ducks winning it all this year. Swing and a miss.

Now, we regroup. We’re playing with house money a little bit here. Still, I had my eyes set on a $1,000  ...
