Procrastination: You check your emails every 5 minutes, check twitter and facebook, already checked all possible funny cats, but still cant get yourself together to finally do the damn job.
Not seeing the big picture : even if you have a proven backtested system, winning nearly every single day, just one bad day puts you in a state of shock.
Let me ask you something:
Imagine I am about to give you $1000 cash and I am already reaching my wallet. Then I stop for a second and ask you “How about I give you $1100 instead but a week later??”
I bet you say impatiently “No, no, forget it, just give me damn $1000 right now!!!”
Now another example:
“I will give you $1000 in 1 year from now, but if you wish to wait 1 extra week to that, I will give you $1100”.
You reply totally changes: “if I can wait 1 year, then 1 extra week does not matter, I will wait and take more money”. What changed? Nothing.
That is brain playing games on you, trying to over value short term things.
By checking your email, twitter and facebook every 5 minutes you are receiving small but IMMEDIATE pleasure (reward). By doing your job, you probably will receive your salary but that reward does not come anytime soon and seems less important to our brain.
Same with sports handicapping. Your brain is trying to overvalue your day to day results comparing to long term results.
That is exactly the reason 90% of newbies fail on sports betting. They start following some system, get couple of losing days, stop following, miss profits, start all over, stop again, miss profits etc.
