NFL Picks 9/19: Thursday Night Football – Kansas City Chiefs at Philadelphia Eagles

NFL Picks and Predictions: Thursday Night Football – Kansas City Chiefs at Philadelphia Eagles

In a game with almost no Z-Code signal, I thought it would be fun to bring back one of my favorite forms of analysis – the bullet point organization of a tricky game. Unfortunately, I still can’t come to a decision. Let’s check out why:

1. Thursday Night Football always favors the home team. With less time to prepare, road teams historically have some serious difficulty adjusting to the short week with travel. Beware road teams on Thursdays! It’s a DEFINITE trend.

2. Both the Philadelphia  ...

MLB Picks 9/18: Desperate New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays

MLB Picks and Predictions 9/18: New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays

The Yankees have owned the Jays this year, but they’re mired in a year-end slump that could end their push for the playoffs.

It’s been a horrible season for the Yankees. Injuries took away New York’s chances early on, but they battled through. Just when they looked like they were turning a corner in a tight wild card race, injuries seem to have hit them too hard once more.

When you look at this Yankees lineup, it’s just not the same team we thought they were. Then again,  ...

MLB Picks 9/16: Free Cash Contest – Texas Rangers at Tampa Bay Rays

MLB Picks and Predictions: September 16th – Featured $100 Contest Game – Texas Rangers at Tampa Bay Rays

This is a rare opportunity to showcase two slumbering teams that are equally futile at the moment, but also the two teams tied for the wild card at the moment. The Rangers have lost ten of eleven, the Rays have sunk to within a few games of missing the playoffs. This is a battle – but not the type you’d expect from the current wild card placeholders.

With at least three teams nipping at their heels, this series could mean everything to  ...

NFL Week Two Picks: Dallas Cowboys at Kansas City Chiefs

Arrowhead is a tremendously difficult stadium to go into and win. This could be a factor when Romo’s receivers are already running the wrong routes when they’re in friendly confines. Andy Reid knows the Cowboys pretty well, which could also be a factor. I see why Vegas is making the Chiefs a three-point favorite, but I don’t necessarily agree with it.

I don’t know that the Chiefs are very good. I understand the higher expectations, but I don’t believe in Alex Smith and I don’t think the Chiefs have all that many weapons on offense. Charles is an excellent running  ...

NFL Picks and Predictions Week Two: Thursday Night Football – New England Patriots Vs New York Jets

NFL Picks and Predictions: Thursday Night Football – New York Jets at New England Patriots

I’m on the Patriots -12 and the Patriots teased to -6 with the over. I am very low confidence and betting this because it is the only show in town and I’m looking for fun… I would not qualify this spread as a system play, but I will be on it.

The Jets surprised everyone when they stole a win from the Bucs, who I thought were going to have a great year. New York is a garbage team with a slow defense, weak running  ...

MLB Picks 9/11: Pittsburgh Pirates at Texas Rangers

MLB Picks and Predictions: Pittsburgh Pirates at Texas Rangers

Z-Code and I are in an epic battle in this one so I figured I’d feature it on the main page. Normally, when Z-Code and I disagree, it’s a good sign to stay away from a game. I’d have to continue with that advice on this game, but it’s fun to take a look at.

Z-Code likes the Pirates. With full five-star support on the underdog, the play looks to have some value. Still, Burnett is slumping and there’s sweep resistance here. I don’t trust AJ Burnett to snap out of  ...

Week One NFL Picks: Monday Night Football – Houston Texans at San Diego Chargers

NFL Picks and Predictions: Monday Night Football – Houston Texans at San Diego Chargers

Monday Night Football features two seemingly obvious games, a seemingly valuable line, and a seemingly simple choice…

Monday Night Football is tricky, however, because Las Vegas has a lot of action on only a few games (usually one). They can control the intake and push the action – think back to that Seahawks Packers game from last year that was lost on a blown call hail mary…

I would not go high confidence on either of these “obvious plays” – but they do look pretty good.

Week One NFL Picks: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys, Sunday Night Football

NFL Picks and Predictions: Opening Football Weekend – New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys, Sunday Night Football

I like the Cowboys this year, but I like the Cowboys every year and I’m always wrong. My feeling, this time around, is that with a healthy running back and so many dynamic offensive weapons, they can find enough balance to keep Tony Romo on his feet. If the Cowboys don’t use the run and screen effectively, Romo has proven he can’t do it alone (though he is good for one or two remarkable scrambles a game).

Z-Code sees no value. Sunday Night  ...

AFC East NFL Predictions 2013: How Bad Are The New York Jets?

NFL Predictions – AFC East

After a nice win to open the year with a Broncos blowout, let’s get back to our predictions. The AFC East looks pretty straightforward, and I’m pretty excited about another year where the Jets are terrible!

New England Patriots (11-5): The division is soft, and that should mask a decade of mediocrity on defense. Brady lost his go-to guy, but the Pats look good enough to dominate the rest of this nonsense division.

Buffalo Bills (8-8): CJ Spiller has emerged as a legitimate threat, but they parted ways with the man they thought would be a franchise quarterback and this team is hurting. Not much of a defense, not much consistency on offense, but some talent… maybe.

Miami Dolphins (7-9): Mike Wallace will only be as good as his young, inexperienced, unexciting quarterback will make him. I don’t think the Dolphins will be all that impressive this year.

New York Jets (4-12): Even if  ...

NFL Picks: Opening Day – Baltimore Ravens at Denver Broncos Thursday Night Football

NFL Picks and Predictions: Baltimore Ravens at Denver Broncos

FOOTBALL IS BACK! We’re ready for another profitable season and it starts on Thursday Night! The Denver Broncos are arguably the best team in the AFC while the defending champs lost a lot of pieces. This one seems obvious.

Still, Z-Code isn’t so sure. Three-star moneyline support lends to the idea that something is up, and the line is pretty sharp.

I picture the Broncos picking apart the Ravens here, though their defense is a little bit shaky. Still, Peyton Manning is the better QB, the Broncos are the better team,  ...

AFC North 2013 NFL Predictions: Are Cincinnati Bengals Team to Beat?

NFL Picks and Predictions: AFC North 2013

The champs have regressed, the Steelers have done the same, and the upstart Bengals are a hard team to trust. This is anyone’s division – so let’s take a quick look at the AFC North!

1. Cincinnati Bengals (10-6) – Call me crazy, but I like this team to finish 10-6 and steal the division. There’s a dynamic and powerful platoon at running back, Andy Dalton is another year older, and don’t sleep on this defense. In a division that took two steps back… why not?

2. Baltimore Ravens (9-7) – Yes, they still have Ray Rice, but they lost their top wideout, the whole core of the defense, and they did little to fill the voids. Never underestimate the heart of a champion, but I simply doubt that there’s enough talent here to consistently win games.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7) – This division is a total toss up. The Steelers parted with  ...
